Dummy Eagle - 1949

Initial strips with Lex Christian, the East End of London Chaplain, were developed into the above strip. This is how both Frank Hampson and Marcus Morris saw the way forward with the Dan Dare character. When Marcus was doing his rounds with the dummy Eagle in 1949, this is the story that publishers were reading.

Would it have been as acceptable as the Dan Dare that eventually came about? Many publishers loved the artwork and production quality of the comic, they were just a bit dubious about its Christian overtones.
