21st January 1961 saw the 1000th issue of The Dandy. It also had a new look to the front title as well by this time. Exact date not known, but it did change some time between issue #946 and this one. It may even have been this one. Does anyone know for sure, or at least narrow the gap for me.
Appearing alongside Korky The Cat and Desperate Dan was Smasher, who acted and looked remarkably like Dennis The Menace. Only real difference being the black and blue checked shirt as opposed to the black and red striped one. This black and blue checked shirt was to later change to black and red checked.
Another very good story within these pages was David Law's, 'Corporal Clott', who was as much use as a chocolate kettle. He certainly had a few mishaps along the way, but I'm left wondering just how bad the rest of his platoon were, if he had been made up to Corporal!
By now, and since the 16th October 1960, The Dandy had full colour pages on both the front and back pages as well as the centre pages. |
