Alfred Harmsworth's

Funny Wonder (#203) Christmas Number

19th December 1896

Alfred Harmsworth enjoyed giving value for money and during the Christmas period he liked to produce colour versions of some of his comic titles. It did mean that the price increased from a ha'penny to a full penny but this didn't deter people from buying it.

In 1896, it was the turn of The Funny Wonder which ran from 4th February 1893 to 25th May 1901 (434 issues). The title went under many name changes with the more famous one being Jester, which ran from 1912-1940.
