Re: ABCs for Jan-Jun 2011 - disappointing results...

If The Dandy's readership has gone down i don't believe it's to do with either the relaunch or the material inside - The Dandy now has strips which REALLY connect with kids, and the feedback you see is very positive. The problem is the same as The DFC had, getting your audience to hear about it in t...

Re: Hairy Steve

Thank you both! And yeah, I think crowdsource fundraising is an incredibly intriguing model for any cartoonist putting their work on the web - you can reach a wider audience with your work and give extra to those who choose to help fund you. Myself and Steve were rather surprised with the response a...

Hairy Steve

Hello good Comics UK folk! My name is Jamie Smart. I draw Desperate Dan, as well as My Own Genie, PSPM, Fish-Head Steve, even Doctor Who these days. A few years ago, I collaborated on a comic with one of my comic heroes, who forum-ers probably know already, Steve Bright (Bananaman among many, but bi...

Re: Lenore

hi Starboy! oh not at all i didn't take offence, actually i was loathe to post a comment in case it sounded like i was having a tantrum, but i felt it's a subject i could comment on. the comparisons were annoying at first, when they were most frequent a few years back, because they diminish your own...

ah, well, since you asked, the comic i did for SLG is all online to read from here http://www.bearfoo.com/comics/bear-1-who-the-hell-is-bear/ though my more general site is http://www.fumboo.com i would also agree you check out Jhonen V, and google comics like Skelebunnies, Milk & Cheese, and especi...

Re: Lenore

Ah had to just chip in here. I drew a comic book called Bear for SLG Publishing, who were the same publishers of Lenore (and many other books of that cute/dark genre). I did get a lot of comparisons to the other artists, even abuse, even from 'one' of the artists themselves. But I can categorically ...

Re: Dandy Relaunch THIS WEDNESDAY!!!

i must just say the response here to the Dandy relaunch has been so wonderful, it shows that DCT and the quite lovely editorial staff on the Dandy have made The Right Decision in bringing comics back. Not only that, but they:ve actively searched out new talent and brought it into the fold with pros,...

Re: Dandy Relaunch next month

Ah yes I did a number of logos for The Dandy, this was the one that made it. Very pleased people like it! I've been pretty involved in the relaunch for some time now, it's been hard keeping it quiet. I'm away on the relaunch date (gutted!), but I've just been writing my blog post about it all, to po...

Re: DFC To Be Relaunched?

Alas no, none of the DFC artists kept their rights, the deal was a little complicated but that's the nub of it. So while it would be wonderful to see FHS become a show, it'd be for the love of it rather than the percentage royalty. As any artist who develops work for tv, draws comics or creates book...

Re: The "gross comics" debate

when i was drawing Count Von Poo for Toxic comic, it (naively) didn't occur to me that anyone might actually be offended by it. The idea of a spooky kid drawing faces on his faeces (har! shoulda used that) and imagining wonderful adventures with them, to me, was innocent mucky fun. Toxic suggested a...

Re: DFC RIP

such a shame, The DFC was such a success in what it was trying to do, it just chose the wrong time to do it. But in its time on sale, it can be proud of the exceptional issues it produced.

And it was an honour to be working with such great artists. here's hoping something can come out of it!

Re: Jamie Smart's Space Raoul book

ah! oh! thanks Raven, i meant to mention it here yes! The Space Raoul book is published by SLG Publishing and available from good book/comic stores, as well as amazon etc. I am exceedingly proud of the heroic red lump and the book is literally jam-sandwiched full of adventure. If you want to see som...

Re: DFC hows it going.....Lew:)

yeah Peter, come back on board and subscribe! Fish-Head Steve is the greatest thing since battenburg cake (unbiased opinion)! The DFC is really finding its stride now I think. Mezolith, Sneaky and the ever-unnervingly beautiful Monkey Nuts show such a great range of styles. Oh and yeah look forward ...
