Re: Does your partner have any interest in your comics?
My wife is not a comics person but does like the films - sometimes more than I do, she is a sci-fi fan of the old school through (Forbidden Planet, Fantastic Voyage, Blake's 7 - that sort of thing) and used to be a sci-fi trading card collector back in the 80's and 90's so when we used to go to fair...

Re: The Silent Majority/Minority?
She wrote a letter about her pet goldfish which DC Thomson kindly published in their Emma comic with a large picture of my sister. Does she still have it? If not, I should be able to supply a scan of the article as I have the full run of Emma apart from issue 28. That's a kind offer but she does st...

Re: The Silent Majority/Minority?
I had a bad start. Around the age of 10 my sister and I both crafted letters to our favourite comics of the day. She wrote a letter about her pet goldfish which DC Thomson kindly published in their Emma comic with a large picture of my sister. I wrote an incoherent letter to Marvel UK about the hist...

Re: 'you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover'
My late aunt and uncle got me that Trigan Empire for Christmas when it first came out. It may have been that book that originally alerted me to the quality of UK comics.

Re: What is... a comic?
For some strange reason this always used to be a question that fascinated me. I think it was attached to once wanting a definitive list of all comics ever published, even if that ran into several million worldwide (which I think it does). I spent some time in the late 90's through to about 2005 on v...

It's a smart little comic. I don't think you will be disappointed although I had a slight preference for his brother Spike.starscape wrote:Over 100 Buddy comics for £25. Always a comic I meant to read more of.

Re: Scanlations
I like most of what I have purchased from Cinebook. Loved the art in their Wind in the Willows series and was wowed by both the story and art in their Chimpanzee complex series. Wish I could afford to buy and store more of their releases.

Re: A Slice of Comic Life
I don't have any exact stats by week but at one time I was trying to collect all comics published during 1982 and have 1,737 of them (the count includes annuals). 1,737/52 = an average of 33 comics per week although it won't be that evenly distributed in reality. Earl. Hi Earl. That's an interestin...

Re: Wonder comic from Esso
I have issues 18 and 20 which I purchased from a second hand book shop in the late 80's. I don't think I have ever seen any other copies for sale in real life and have not searched for copies on ebay.

It's been a year or maybe two since I last posted here but it's a fun thread so... My comics collecting goes back to 1972/1973 and the nursery titles Hey Diddle Diddle and also Playhour. Most of those were thrown out but mum did allow me to keep a few and I still have some examples in my collection ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I won about 15 early issues of Tracy from e-bay including a No. 1. That only duplicated 1 issue from my existing collection as I purchased issued 12 when it originally came out over 30 years ago now.
