Re: British Marvel mags of the '70s - which one was best?
I actually preferred MWOM a bit later when it had started absorbing other titles, just because of the sheer variety and strangeness of it. Who in their right mind would publish a title featuring the Hulk, Daredevil, Dracula and Planet of the Apes? But it worked! My first thought when I saw the comb...

Re: STRIP Rant
Thanks Lew. I'd already checked the Strip webpage, which said (somewhat vaguely) "early June" as the new date for issue #2 making it into the shops, hence my asking here if anyone has seen it, since it is now "early June."

Re: Digital Dandy
Since the Dandy shop is horrendously unclear about this, simply listing prices for buying credits without, as far as I can make out, explaining how many credits you need to purchase anything, can anyone confirm exactly how many credits you need to buy issues of the digital Dandy? I see on the first ...

Re: STRIP Magazine relaunches next Monday! (April 8th)
Still no sign of Strip #2 in my local WHSmiths, though as noted above, last time they didn't get it on the shelves until nearly three weeks after it was meant to be on sale, so I can't tell whether the current absence is down to a general distribution problem or just my local store's ongoing ineptit...

Re: First female-led strip in a boys's comic
Planet of the Damned also had a female villain. You must be thinking of another strip. Planet of the Damned didn't have a female villain - it barely had any female characters in speaking roles. You had an unidentified female who appeared in the first episode and only served to scream when the Ab-Hu...

Re: First female-led strip in 2000AD?
I was chatting with a friend about Ebony in The Crunch and it got me wondering whether she was the first female protagonist in a comic aimed at boys. I know there's a long history of female protagonists in 2000AD, but I really have no idea how far back it goes. The earliest I can think of were the ...

Re: Stop legalized copyright theft
I've reported such sellers to e-bay too, and they continue unabated, so I guess e-bay doesn't care so long as they get their cut of the illegal sales.Marionette wrote:
I've tried reporting people who sell discs on ebay but I see the same sellers still there months later, so they don't seem bothered either.

Re: New book about Penny Dreadfuls and Story Papers
Story Papers are a semi-ignored part of comic history, Penny Dreadfuls are today treated as "Sooo OSSUM" steampunk-fodder, and the early experimental juvenile periodicals are shrouded in mystery... But no longer! The British Library has recently published the first in-depth study of Story Papers fr...

Re: STRIP Magazine relaunches next Monday! (April 8th)
PrintMedia tell me their distributor, Warners, has spoken to the Uxbridge store who confirmed that they have the magazine in stock and even confirmed that they have sold copies, too. They are speaking to their magazine manager today. I went back into the Uxbridge Smiths today and yes, they finally ...

Re: STRIP Magazine relaunches next Monday! (April 8th)
The Uxbridge WHSmiths still doesn't have any copies in, and remains clueless about when or if they will get it in. :headbash: Don't forget that while PrintMedia have published a list of stores where the magazine should be in stock, this doesn't mean you can't order STRIP from your local WH Smiths o...

Re: STRIP Magazine relaunches next Monday! (April 8th)
The WHSmiths in Watford had loads of copies when I was in there yesterday!. Unfortunately, that's around a 20 mile drive for me, which would effectively push up the price a few extra pounds in travel costs. Given the comments above about publishers having to pay Smiths to put their titles in specif...
