Help - Comic Story

Can anyone help me with the title of a dimly remembered story from a British comic? It must have been from the mid to late 1970's, and all I can really remember is that there was an alien attack on a planet inhabited by men. The aliens were in spaceships while the men were dressed in armour, and armed with swords & spears.

It sounds a bit one sided, but the swords seemed to fire lasers.

Anyway, the men were slaughtered, and the one survivor somehow acquired a spaceship and went off into space. The spaceship was sentient, and could communicate with him.

The art made a great impression on me, and I wish I knew more about the story. And what happened in the end. I could be wrong, but I don't think this was in 2000AD.
