Boy Bandit from Jag

Post by Raven »

A couple of years ago, Lew did an excellent post on his blog about Jag, which made the comic seem very appealing indeed. It seemed quite broad in its range of themes, locations and historical periods. Included was a double-page spread of the strip Boy Bandit:

(Here's the whole post on Jag: http://lewstringer.blogspot.com/2007/09 ... g-jag.html )

I'd never seen this strip before - and haven't seen anything of it since! (Jag turns out to be relatively rare-ish on Ebay - and individual issues, rarely in great condition, go for quite high prices when it does appear.) I like Tom Kerr's art a lot and thought this was probably the best I've seen by him. I was just wondering if anyone had any further info on this intriguing looking strip.

Artwise, in his Jag Index postings, Kashgar revealed that the credits were: Tom Kerr 27/7/68-1/3/69, Anon 8/3, 15/3, Selby Donnison 22/3, 29/3

Does the strip appear in any of the Jag annuals (which are quite common on Ebay)? Kashgar revealed that the 1971 annual just featured a BB text story. Any lengthy reprints in any?

Was any of it ever reprinted in later annuals or holiday specials of other titles that might be cheaper to get hold of, maybe under a different name?

Can't help thinking it would make a very nice Bear Alley Books collection.

And so, indeed, would The Mouse Patrol and their German-helmeted chimpanzee.
