Credit to Digifiend for giving me the heads up on it, so I then looked up more info. John Freeman has also reported about it on his Down the Tubes blog.
Unlike the Marvel and DC reprint comics, this one features material that has been originated in the UK by British creators. (Although the stories have been previously published for a mainly American readership.)
Well, guys. I was considering renewing my Doctor Who Magazine sub but Doctor Who Comic looks a better proposition. Don't get me wrong, the magazine is great but I rather read strips than articles.
There! I have just taken out a subscription.
Reading comics since 1970. My Current Regulars are: 2000 AD (1977-), Judge Dredd Megazine (1990-), Spaceship Away (2003-), Commando (2013-), Monster Fun (2022-), Deadpool and Wolverine (2023-), Quantum (2023-).

Thanks, Lew. Got my copy Wednesday but have unable to read it as I had to go to sunny Bristol for a few days for work. So roll on Saturday...

The comic was only available in WHS in Falkirk. I didn't se it in other newsagents in Linlithgow and Falkirk nor in the supermarkets - Asda, Safeway, Tesco. In WHS, it was indeed in beside the kiddies comics and nowhere near the DC and Marvel reprints, which themselves are right beside Doctor Who mags with big pictures of Capaldi on the front. They haven't a clue in WHS. My comment to the lady at the till was met with smiling incomprehension. This new comic is unlikely to succeed without better distribution and the sense to put it beside those glossy American comics and the Who and SF magazines.
When I eventually got round to reading it, I enjoyed it - well most of it. This sort of tv adaptation comic tends to suffer from the same problem - the depictions of the characters look unlike those on the screen and that jars, imo. Star Trek suffered from the same thing. Dave Taylor, on the first story, draws some nice panels, and in some detail, but the changing face of the Doctor is distracting and I kept thinking that if the artist can't draw a likeness of Capaldi every time, at least settle on a look and stick to it. Not being an expert, I'd say that there were reminiscences of Moebius and Tardi in some of the faces and scenes, which is always a good thing.
The 11th Doctor story was good fun and had an excellent full page opening scene, reflecting the state of Alice's emotions well. How nice to se the PM saying, "I want my beddy now"
I'll have another read of all 3 stories and a think about the 19th doctor story, later on.
A good new comic, good value, entertaining, but printed on crap paper which seems to distort with hand heat, but then, I'm biased against most paper used in your average comic.
I think I'll be buying this every month.
I will say that in Bishop Auckland's WHSmith, Doctor Who Comic was with its Titan brothers and Panini rivals (and Judge Dredd Megazine) in the Sci-Fi section. So well placed.
Read my comic and enjoyed all the stories. I am not particularly bothered if an artist's rendition of a Doctor is not completely lifelike as long as the general artwork is good which I thought they were. Nor am I bothered that the strips have been printed before. All in all a good comic.

And I found my copy right next to DWM and it's specials, and just slightly above and to the left of the Marvel/DC stuff. Some store managers use common sense, unlike the one at the store Lew got his copy from.
I don't have a problem with the interior art, but Elena Casagrande's cover left me slightly baffled: where was Peter Capaldi, and why was Harrison Ford there, wearing his clothes?

LOL. That's cruel. I thought the front cover was okay. Not the most original but okay.

Even worse, I heard from a reader whose Sainsburys had it in stock but it wasn't on their system when he got to the till so they just keyed in a sale for Doctor Who Adventures instead!
If most branches are doing that, their automated ordering system will cut back orders for issue 2 undeservedly. Makes you wonder what other comics have the wrong sales figures registered.
