Robot invasion strip from 60's?

Post by Roymattblack »

Hello there.

I'm a newbie here - 61 years old and still love comics.
However - there's a strip from the past that's been haunting me for years and I can't track it down.

All I remember is that it featured robots - red in colour if I recall correctly - that invaded earth. There were a small group of resistance constantly battling to defeat them.
I 'think' the robots had slightly skull shaped heads, insect eyes, perhaps tank-track feet and could maybe fly.

All a bit vague, but I was young and remember this strip scared me stiff and I would quickly turn the comic pages and try not to read it.
For some reason I recal one episode where the resistance went after fuel tanker trucks with 'LOX' written on the sides. I didn't read the strip, but remember those panels.

It would have been a standard UK comic - not a US magazine.
It wasn't Dan Dare or Magnus, robot fighter.

Can anyone remember it, or help?

Roy.

Sounds a bit like Lion's Captain Condor in the Push-Button Planet - though that was printed in black & white.

Many thanks guys, but that isn't it.

I do remember the strip was inside the comic, and the robots looked 'creepier'.

Hi Roy, If you remember the robots being red and inside the comic it sounds more likely to be a DC Thomson title like Beezer or Topper rather than one of the boys adventure comics of the period. Can you be more precise as to time frame as this would certainly help?

It could very well have been either of those comics.
It was my brother who had them both - he's 4 years older than me.
I would put the time at very early 60's.

Maybe 'the year of bedlam' in the Beezer? That's all about robots going crazy and is very early sixties.

I haven't heard of that one...

Has anyone got any scans or pictures?
Google images bring up next to nothing.

My mate, Steve (no relation) has suggested The Year of the Vanaks from Sparky although he is not optimistic.
