Scouse Mouse / Ace comics

Post by Richard S. »

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how many different issues of Scouse Mouse comics there were? I understand it was run as a monthly comic

I'd also be interested to know how many issues of 'Ace!' comic there were - the copy I picked up today is described as 'Scouse Mouse presents Ace!'

thanks
Richard

Good question Richard! This is a really curious title, appearing to start as an independent title then ultimately merging into Whizzer and Chips. I'll try and dig out some copies over the next few days. Meanwhile good meeting you at the Lightbox a couple of weeks ago.

I know IPC published a separate Scouse Mouse title before adding him to Whizzer and Chips. I think it only ran for six months.

The issue of Ace that I have doesn't even have an issue number on it, so I'd be curious for a bit more information as well.

Done a quick bit of digging and found this has been discussed before...

Briefly here:

And again briefly here:

George Nicholas wrote and drew most of Ace before Scouse Mouse comic was a thing... That's a start?

Loads of information here, but right now I'm too tired to read so here's the link:

This statement by Shiner reminds me, Richard, of how remiss I have been in not commenting on the very pleasant and informative chat about our favourite comics, story papers and comic heroes that we had in Wimbledon on June 20th. To clarify for other members, we had agreed to meet in the Alexandra but in view of the enormous noise from the England supporters there, in order to be able to hear each other speak we ended up in a kind of cellar in a different pub nearby. The two hours before I needed to get a train back to Southfields seemed to pass very quickly.

It was indeed a very pleasant evening (once we'd found a pub where we could hear each other talk!) - if members find themselves in Wimbeldon of an evening let me know

As of yesterday, I now have two issues of Scouse Mouse Presents Ace - one of which says "1st Edition" on the cover.

Yep, that's the one - I also got the first two issues of another George Nicholas comic called Wanted, which features such characters as Budgie Malone, Owl Capone, The Swiney and Inspector Spectre.
