........the comic strip (1950s) (and in what comic) where a boy had a set of "live" soldiers/figures that he brought out of the box to fight the evil forces he saw?
Probably making that sound more dramatic than it was but it always fascinated me and I wanted a set!!

'sfunny how you (me anyway) can remember images but not names - I have absolutely no recollection of it being called General Jumbo, but that's certainly the cartoon strip. That must have been one helluva remote control he had on his arm to do all that. Never thought about the technicalities then, but even now I think it would be too complicated to carry off.
In looking for pics of it I came across the first appearance of the character in a Beano (1953) - sold for £50!
