Collected Nemesis the Warlock

Discuss or comment on Britain's sole surviving boy's comic from the 1970's. The home of Judge Dredd, Slaine, Nikolai Dante, ABC Warriors and Sinister Dexter. Has been running since 1977.

Just bought Volume One of The Complete Nemesis the Warlock. Absolutely fantastic stuff in a whopping huge softback. Kev O'Neill's best 2000AD work and my favourite strip of the 1980's. Recommended!

Must get it. Always loved Nemesis, and Kev O'Neill's demented artwork suited the feel of the stories down to the ground. I actually flicked through the volume in a shop the other day and was reminded of a happy time when highly original black and white art was the order of the day. Now we're swamped by highly polished and derivative computer coloured b*****ks. Grumble...

Good interview with Kev O'Neill here:

I used to know him quite well in the 1980's. Unfortunately lost touch years ago as he never attends UK cons now.

Easily one of my LEAST favourite tales from 2000AD.

Love Nemesis - including Bryan Talbot's run (and the 'lost' book 2 by Redondo). Got all the old Titan books (blimey - 9 volumes!).

What does the new vol 1 include?

Books 1 to 4, so that's Kev's (1 and 3), Redondo's (2), and Bryan's first (4) plus Terror Tube, Killer Watt, the annual story, summer special story, covers, pin ups etc.

New text features: introduction by Pat Mills, afterword by Kev O'Neill.

In all, a nice chunky book. Repro is crisp and clear. Kev's stuff in particular stands out; brilliantly detailed black comedy on a par with (perhaps even excelling) Ken Reid's Odham's work.

Does it include the 'comic rock' stuff that kick started the whole 'Nemesis' thing? If I recall correctly, didn't it begin with a strip inspired by the Jam's 'Going Underground'?

I never liked Nemesis. I think I was moving away from 2000AD at the time characters like him and Slaine just did not appeal to me at all. It's good to hear though that these collections are being produced for the fans though.

Yes, Terror Tube and Killer Watt are included at the front of the book. It's all there. Stunningly detailed artwork from Kev O'Neill. Brings back memories of the early 1980's when a local independent newsagent used to fetch the weekly comics from the warehouse a day early (to out-do WH Smith) and I'd be at his shop on Friday afternoon eagerly buying 2000AD for the next Nemesis installment.

Really nice artwork throughout Nemesis. Kev O'Neil's work was my favourite - he could have been doing the humour titles, but his work here was very detailed. Torquemada wasn't keen on aliens - yet at one point he even had an alien body. The little touches were anlways nice like 'Grobbendonk' doing things in the background of the frames.

Does anyone else remember Kevin O'Neills more humourous 'Dash Decent' :?:

Yes I do - the 'Flash Gordon' send up (with deliberately stupid effects), and didn't he also draw 'Captain Klep' in 'Tornado' for a period?
