Who are the artists please?

Post by NickJ »

Hello,

I was recently viewing Captain Storm's website, (which is great) and asked him if he knew the names of any of the artists featured on his site for the new Hotspur comic. He said no, but the place to try would be here.

I have added a few other images to the attachments. I recently bought a small number of Hotspur comics from different decades. Part two to follow.

Cheers.

Nick

Nick, I know it's not much use to you, but Cannuck King scripts were re-used in the 70's for Warlord.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

The very first cartoon-styled one ['Scruffy'] looks like George Drysdales' work to me.

The Black Hatchet artwork definitely reminds me of the style of Dandy stalwart Bill Holroyd ['Brassneck, etc], but I really need to see more detail.

"Rusty Riley" is an american comic strip, it was drawn by Frank Godwin.

Hello,

Thanks for all of the replies. The information about the Rusty Riley strip, was a surprise. Checking the web, the strip was published in many US newspapers. I hadn't realised that DC Thomson published American strips in their boys comics.

Reading the Bill Holroyd topic, would I be correct in thinking his brother Albert drew the Black Wolf series? Artwork from the series is below.

Thanks again.

Cheers Nick

Albert drew Hungry Horace, Thingummy Blob for Sparky [60s-70s] and a lot of inside BEEZER back pages [late 60s-early 70s]

Hope this helps ya, Nick!

Black Hatchet is definitely unmistakeably Bill Holroyd. First panel is one of his typical poses.

Now you mention it, Rab, yes, I think Scruffy is by George Drysdale (couldn't put a name to it)

The Black Wolf clip shown is not by Albert Holroyd, and that's all the use I can be! On the other hand, it could be the same guy who drew the Braddock strip a thread or two further down? Both are a little like Ron Smith, but definitely not.
