Jim Petrie
Very sorry to hear on Facebook and on Nigel Parkinson's blog that Jim Petrie has passed away. His Minnie the Minx strips (1963 to his retirement in 2000) were superb examples of top quality humour strips. His 'Sparky People' was one of my favourites too.

Re: Jim Petrie
I haven't been on Facebook for a couple of days, as I had other internet work, but it is a big shock.
I'll try and do a tribute to Jim on my blog in a couple of days.

Re: Jim Petrie
Absolutely wonderful artist, last published a few years ago with a one-off Fatty Fudge strip written, as all the others in that series had been, by Craig Ferguson.
My memories of Jim's work were Minnie (of course), the wonderful Sparky People (written when the comic was at its majestically bizarre height - I would guess the editor wrote it himself?), and his work for IPC - the Incredible Sulk (Jackpot), Softy Sir (School Fun), the Cavers (Whoopee) and one I forgot a little earlier - he did occasional Cheeky work, including annuals.

A comics legend. There aren't many people who can manage anything like the same run on a single comic strip (David Sutherland matched him with Bash Street, I'm at a loss beyond that). 2000 weekly episodes of Minnie, the majority of them being two-pagers, and then annuals on top of that, as well as his work for other comics as Andy mentioned above. RIP Jim.

Bugger, another hero's gone - LOVE Jim's stuff, there's not many that give such a sense of "movement" as his wildly spinning limbs and so on do. Plus the weird facial expressions, false teeth popping out, massive tongues... There won't be another like him, that's for sure.
RIP

Dreadful news. The Sparky remains one of my favourite comics, and "The Sparky People" was tremendous fun. I've posted my tribute here: http://downthetubes.net/?p=16500

Apparantly Jim's pencil roughs were beautiful to behold: his epic body of work is as valid as any of his era, I loved his chaotic details like a sandwich with a single bite out of it, under Mins' bed.

And he has been featured on Last Word, the Radio 4 obituary program
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
