I remember seeing some prints of his framed on the wall in a pub in Wales about 20 years ago. He was very prolific. I always liked his illustrations for Look and Learn. Such rich colours and depth to his work.philcom55 wrote:I seem to remember that they did the same with Joe 90 and UFO. Somebody really ought to start a website to catalogue Ron's work - few comic artists of his calibre can have been so prolific and published in so many obscure formats and places! (though I think a lot of the cards might have been drawn by his brother Gerry)

One of my earliest memories from the 1950s is sitting at the breakfast table studying one of Ron's American Indians featured on the back of a Kellogg's Corn Flakes box!

Re: Pat Williams
Ron's style didn't suit every kind of historical subject. His medieval pictures were too shiny and fairytale for me. Peter Jackson's paintings looked more convincing because they were grimy as well as colourful .
Re: Pat Williams
I agree that Jackson produced fantastic historical illustrations - especially for Look & Learn and Treasure - but I was never so impressed by his comic strip work (mainly in Eagle).

For those that are fans of Pat's work and Biggles, then you could do worse than bid on this version of The Cruise Of The Condor
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

I like that first page. In Biggles' world there are few problems that a well-placed punch in the jaw won't solve!
This seems to have been Pat Williams' big seller, there's plenty of them out there.
