Peter Woolcock RIP

Post by matrix »

I have only just recently found out about Peter Woolcock's tragic passing in Bermuda in December 2014.
I can not find any reference to it on here so not sure how many already know about it?

I am sure on here Peter would like us all to remember him for his outstanding contribution to British comics like 'Playhour' and 'Jack and Jill' without which I am sure would not have been the same.

As a tribute I would like to offer two scans of his last episode of 'Wind in the willows' in which nearly all the characters are together, celerbrating, then waving good bye.

That's very sad news, and a lovely tribute Matrix. :(

I've just spent some time looking through the pages of original Woolcock art I acquired a few years ago when it was cheap and plentiful, and was struck more than ever by the idyllic nature of the world he drew. Harold Hare's Own Paper no.1 was the very first comic I ever owned, and now I only have to glance at these scenes of Mr. Toad and his friends to be transported immediately back to those endless happy Summer days of my childhood! :)

Time will never fade the wonderful jollity of Woolcock's art.

I see that Peter Woolcock is being celebrated in Bermuda by an exhibition at the Bermuda National Gallery (see http://bermudanationalgallery.com/exhib ... and-events)

Yes, I know it's a bit too far for most of us to go, but it's lovely to know that he's being remembered in this way.

A tip of the hat to The Book Palace, whose latest newsletter alerted me to this

Thanks for that link, great to see them doing that, he was obviously well liked over there. And looking at those lovely examples he never lost any of his skills.
