Re: Plot information
The Luck Of The Lumsdens ran in Judy 1194 (Nov. 27 1982) - 1206 (Feb. 19 1983). Their luck was almost all bad! Richard Carlton, an unscrupulous former business partner of Mr Lumsden causes him to lose his business and all his money. He dies. Mrs Lumsden then gets a very serious illness, and she dies. The four girls, Jonquil, Rose, Primula and Marigold, have to face up to their new situation as best they can. Jonquil is an actress and has gone back to her repertory company to further her career without knowing about her mother's death, but as the company is forever on the move Rose cannot get in touch with her.peace355 wrote:I'm Looking for a brief plot summary for "The Luck of the Lumsdens" which appeared in Judy #1194. Sixteen-year-old Rose leaves school immediately as she has finished taking her 'O' level exams in order to get a paying job but is frequently knocked back for being too young, lacking in experience or whatever. She gets menial work but has to impersonate Jonquil whenever Mrs Forsyth, the welfare lady, comes round otherwise the two youngest will be taken into care. They live from hand to mouth with milk from a neighbour's goat and food from Rose's meagre earnings.
Carlton keeps breaking into their house and turning it upside down. It turns out that he is desperately looking for Great Aunt Henrietta's theatre programmes from her shows on Broadway that she had sent to Mr Lumsden. They are important because the lady had made a strange will, leaving her entire fortune to whichever of her relations had kept the souvenirs of her theatrical career. Carlton obviously wants them in order to qualify for that fortune. Who has them? The recently-returned Jonquil, who had taken them with her when she went to the States. End of the bad luck of the Lumsdens!
Re: Plot information
The Lumsdens sound almost as lucky as Heather, whose bad luck went right through to the end in "Nothing Ever Goes Right!"
Re: Plot information
Thanks for the information.
Yes it sounds like they had some tough times.
