Having grown up in farmer country *chews corn*, "Runt" around here was never assumed to be profane in the slightest. But then was never used as an insult either... it would have sounded ridiculous. But then again most things kids say sound ridiculous, just as i probably did to my parents at the same age

(Nutshell: popular kids' author uses a word a bit like "twit" but with a different vowel in a book aimed at readers of 10 years and over. Blimey, eh? Of course, the word "twit" originated as a euphemism for the other word, but still.)

Wasn't Jacqueline Wilson supposed to be one of the contributors to The DFC? No sign of her in there so far...
