OINK! free preview issue.

Post by stevezodiac »

I sold issues 1 and 2 of Oink! on ebay last week, complete with free gifts. I never really bothered to look at them closely so didn't realise it was a Fleetway comic. Yesterday while in my storage unit I dug out a Whizzer & Chips with a free copy of Oink, a preview issue. Was this the first published Tom thug strip?

Yes. I drew it in 1984 when Oink! (then using the working title RRASSP!) was in the planning stages. I created the character but Bob Paynter (group editor of IPC humour comics) wrote most of the script for that first story.

All of the material in that issue comes from the dummy issue of Oink! It took two years for IPC to finally give it the green light. Great days.

I loved reading the preview issue when I came across it....it was all over the place but in a good way!

I do remember the Tom Thug strip getting a reprinting in Buster a decade or so later, can't remember when though!
