Which eras of Lion..Valiant..Smash!..Wham! etc.do you prefer

I'm liking the mid 60's valiant's.it has the right balance for me of humourous adventure strips like the wild wonders..also the grim Steel Claw...also love Reg's the crows..Billy Bunter..will be getting more of Valiant..also love the 70's version with the different mergers...a good mix of humour and adventure..

50's and 60's Lion doesn't do a lot for me except for 2 strips..The Spider..Mowser..
Robot Archie doesn't do a lot for me..
It got a lot better when Thunder joined and I might collect these..
Spellbinder..Black Max..Adam Eterno..
anyone like the 60's Lion comic..I think Valiant is so much better..

I like Buster when Reg Parlett is in it..so 1966 onwards for me..the early 60's do have Maxwell Hawkes..Frozen Summer..But the stories are too short..I admit I don't have any 1962-65 so can any tell me if there are any good humour strips in this period..

Smash! seems to be good throughout..

I'm probably in the minority, in that I really like the IPC version of Smash! Master of the Marsh, King of the Ring...great stuff!

If you get time Peter, try reading some of the wonderfully imaginative 'Jason Hyde' text stories in Valiant. Reading them was the highlight of my week and, along with Eric Bradbury's fantastic illustrations, they always took away the bad taste that Captain Hurricane left behind!

I thought Lion was just a boring "boys-own" until "Turville's Touchstone" (AKA "Spellbinder")started in 1969. Valiant in the mid-60s had beautifully dark art, I liked looking at it, but "Kelly's Eye" was the only strip I'd always read. "Wham!" was best around the time of "Doomsday School". Sadly, I couldn't convince my parents to buy me every issue, but we were living in Broughty Ferry and there were plenty of copies circulating with the local kids. I prefer the early "Wham"-like "Smash" of 1966, except that "Cursitor Doom" is brilliant and makes me want to get more of the later issues.
