I have action comics from 1 to 36 (alas not the rare issue 37) and issue 29th May has free war game intact!. Also have All issues of relaunched action from 4th Dec 1976 and 1st issue of battle action (19th nov 1977) - Could someone please give me a value (boxed slight yellowing and baker written on top corner of all by newsagent - dont you just hate that! I also have action summer special from 1976. Can anyone give me a price to buy rare issue 37 to make full set. Rich baker

I've only ever seen 1 copy of Action No 37 for sale. That was on ebay and it went for ?205. For the others you have ebay is a good guide to the prices.

Isn't anyone going to say why Issue 37 is so rare, what's the deal.

IPC were going to carry out the normal print run, but the run was mainly pulped due to growing pressure on IPC by the main newsagent chains and the growing public unrest over what was perceived to be a magazine aimed at corrupting the morals of young children.

I am surprised that only 30 were saved but I believe that these were mainly the subscription issues (Correct me if I am wrong guys). If you manage to get hold of Martin Barker's fascinating book "Action: The Story of a Violent Comic." or view Moose Harrison's excellent website, then you begin to get a better understanding of why this comic was so popular and how it worried the powers that be. Even now, after 30 years, it is still punchy and grabs you.

Anyone noticed that even though EC comics and Action were banned violence in society still got worse? Comics do not, and never did, corrupt children. The human race can corrupt itself just fine without any influence.
