Diabolik

There was talk of how well comics are doing outside Britain and USA a couple of years ago, in relation to what was happening in Europe and Japan. One of the titles mentioned was Diabolik and there are free mini-comics to read on the official website:-

There is even a photonovel, nowadays quite unusual but, at one time, a very popular entertainment.
On the main site, there is a lot of info. on current issues and a lot of news. This is still a very popular title with a new comic and 2 different reprints every month, albums a couple of times a year, hardback reprints and other Diabolik related stuff.

Sergio Bonelli titles were also mentioned and you can see the titles and characters on the site:-
http://www.sergiobonellieditore.it/
There is a button for English readers. There are still comics everywhere in Italy. And in France, Belgium, Netherlands and to a slightly lesser extent, in Spain, there are albums and comics all over the shop.
Does make you wonder what we have done wrong.

My only exposure to Diabolik for years was the final episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000

I bought the dvd of the film Danger Diabolik a couple of years ago as I like 60s stuff. John Phillip Law played the title character. He was more famous for playing the angel in Barbarella - another of my favourite films and I urge any of our younger members to get a dvd of it. JPL was also the star of Death Rides a Horse - a great spaghetti western with Lee Van Cleef.

You're right about Barbarella and it was also a comic by Jean-Claude Forest. Details here for those who weren't aware of it:-

There are a few other films of the Diabolik type but I don't think any have been released in an English language version. The most well known are the 2 Kriminal films -
Kriminal and Il Marchio di Kriminal. IMDB has details:

There are also, Satanik and Mister X .
Kriminal, was, imo, the best of the neri/gialli comics especially when illustrated by Magnus. I'm a huge fan. Here he is and his alter ego, Anthony Logan:-
