TRIFFIK! Anyone remember it?
I picked up number 1 of Triffik! comic on Saturday for 50p. It has a two page strip by Lew Stringer. How long did the comic run for?

Re: TRIFFIK! Anyone remember it?
It ran for just 12 weeks. A rather over-ambitious comic that tried to be traditional for a new generation that no longer cared. All ended in acrimony I'm afraid and I for one would never want to work for that publisher again.

Apologies for reopening old wounds, i'll put it in the shredder immediately, if not sooner.

Just looking through an old copy of Comics International and found this relevant article
which gives a lot more information on its origins. Its a shame Lew isn't here any more as he may have had something to add.

They expected to sell 500,000? But only printed 400,000? In an era when 100,000 would be a massive success? No wonder it failed!

I do beleive I have a free sample of Triffik that came with an issue of Quiz Kids... somewhere!
Re: TRIFFIK! Anyone remember it?
That'd be ironic, because guess who owns Quiz Kids now? DC Thomson, because they own Puzzler.

Hmm, maybe it's not Triffik then. I know it had a similar title, 90's artwork (I recognised the style of the Go Granny Go artist, who also sometimes does Fishboy in Viz) and popped up inside an annual I bought in a charity shop. I'll have to have a dig...
Re: TRIFFIK! Anyone remember it?
They've only owned it since 2005, so quite possible the free one was in Quiz Kids!

Well, I've just won an auction for an issue from eBay, so I shall have a gander and report back - I vaguely remember hearing about it or perhaps even saw it on the shelves, but never read it.

Re: TRIFFIK! Anyone remember it?
(Hi everyone, just joined up today...)
I'd never heard of this one until it was mentioned in a comics discussion, on another forum somewhere. Curiosity got the better of me and I now have the first two issues, but if I'd've read that Comics International article first (thanks for posting that by the way!), I wouldn't've bothered - such arrogance!
It's not the worst thing I've ever read (as in, it's not The Bog Roll), but it's definitely not the best. Angry Angus (He Loves a Moan on the Phone), Geordies Giants and Staff Room are enjoyable enough, but the likes of Dinoswords and Hannah Hacker are just plain bad.
Still, if it came along today I'd buy it, only because it's something a bit different.

Re: TRIFFIK! Anyone remember it?
Triffik! started out with great expectations but it ended in some animosity between contributors and publishers over payments and rights. I'd never choose to work for them again, that's for sure but I enjoyed dealing with the editor and had fun doing my Tough Guy strip.
