I would love to be going to any of these events. And the one I would have enjoyed the most is already sold out! That's the Neil Gaiman and Tori Amos: Comic Connections talk.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

The fact that someone in 2014 is doing a talk on Ally Sloper appeals to me! Will decide closer to the time if I go or not though.

Terrific - they all take place either before or after the week I'm in London!

The Crumb/Shelton one would be great, as would the Jamie Hewlett, Oliver Frey, Steve Bell and National Lampoon ones. Ah well, maybe they'll end up on YouTube.

Having just returned from Palma de Mallorca, I was interested to find this talk on the list as it features Max, and I bought his G.N. "La Biblioteca de Turpin" in Gotham Comics in Palma last week. :-

And it is as good as the review here suggests:-

Max is actually from Catalonia and lives on Mallorca. Lambiek has a decent page on him here:-

Needless to say that, as I have spent a lot on the hol. and the comics I found in Palma, I can't afford to go to London for this or the other talks.

I'm not sure if it's already been mentioned but I've only just realized that the events are linked to a major 'Comics Unmasked' exhibition being held at the British Library from May 2nd to August 19th. I'll definitely visit this even if I can't make it to any of the individual talks.

I went to this exhibition yesterday and I can recommend it to any lover of the medium. The 200+ exhibits lean towards the overlap between social themes and comics - so more V for Vendetta than Korky though there's something for everyone including original Ken Reid Jonah art, a 1930s Triumph with Superman on the cover, a bound (publisher's?) volume of Action, and more. Definitely not for the junior members of the family though that can be negotiated as you go round as the sections are distinct. If you can't make it then the Comics Unmaked book, available on Amazon, covers it all with many of the exhibits reproduced.

I am planning on going to the Shirley Bellwood event at the British Library. For me it's a dream come true to see Shirley! I can't wait!

Managed to catch this on the second-to-last day while I was in London last week... Really enjoyed it, although there wasn't much I wasn't familiar with already. Nice to see the likes of Skank and Dope Fiend Funnies highlighted - the latter I was expecting but Skank was a genuine "nice surprise". Did see a couple of things to add to the "wish list" as well... Oh, and Judge Dredd in MacDonaldLand, that was fantastic!

Bought the souvenir book at the end, and the nice Australian girl on the till charged me £10 less than the cover price - mistake or "last-day-sale"? I wasn't complaining anyway.
