Phono+Graphic

Post by seanphillips »

I've curated an exhibition of vinyl record covers drawn by comic artists. It's on at Kendal Museum until the 20th October and features plenty of UK artists. Including Dave Gibbons, Dave McKean, Brett Ewins, Stephen Appleby and Simon Thorp... More information available at my blog...

That's a great idea. OK, I can't get to it so I have to ask, fingers crossed, is the Groundhogs comic strip cover by Adams included?
For those unfortunate enough to not know the album or the artwork, have a look. Just click "more images" and have a wallow :D

I saw them when they supported The Stones way, way back, at Green's Playhouse in Glasgow. About as loud as I've experienced. It seemed like there was a complete back wall built by Marshall. McPhee was on great form and Cherry Red was hard as nails. The Stones seemed almost quiet by contrast.

Thank you. Totally intrigued now, of course. I realise you might not want to go into further detail but I have to ask, on your post, which album has the Belgian style art? It's tantalising - I just can't quite make it out.

The one bottom middle? The band is Gasolin, French I think, and the cover is by Herge.

...Of course Flook's Wally ('Trog') Fawkes provided the music as well as his own artwork!

Unfortunately, all the covers had to be 12" vinyl, so couldn't include that one.

Sean, I have fixed the link. And I am sorry that I won't be able to see the exhibition. But at least I have your sketch to enjoy. I was the short fat one with the mad hair at Glasgow. :-)
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
