Longer "script execution time"

Hi, when i'm at my city centre pad (well, university flats) the internet connection wavers between "download a 20 meg movie in a few seconds" to "remember 14.4k modems?" speed XD. Anyway during the latter phase i often get pages that only partly load and have a "script took longer than 30 seconds to execute" in the middle of somebody's sentence, or even in the middle of the words at the top on especially busy times. Is there any way to increase the maximum time allowed? to 30 hours maybe XD

I could be wrong but I think the script is pre-programmed at the server location so is independent of a client machine.Then again I could be right!
