Today is the actual birthday of the Beano, 75 years since the date on issue 1's cover. Newsround marked the occasion.

Re: Beano on Newsround
I blame Denis Gifford for the notion of celebrating the birthday of comics by their cover date. Strictly speaking, as The Beano was originally 'Every Tuesday', then July 26th 1938 would have been its real publication date. Or even July 25th if it came out a day early. (When I was a kid comics always came out one working day before the day mentioned on the cover, and the date referred to the week ending, not the on-sale date.)Digifiend wrote:Today is the actual birthday of the Beano, 75 years since the date on issue 1's cover.

Nice feature by Ruth Liptrot on Channel 5 News today, mainly at the Southbank, but there's a bit of me at work too, taped at about 9.30 this morning!
