Boys, 8 & 11. I would say this was the target audience given it is airing on CBBC and not CBeebies (and Dennis seems to have turned into a "tweenager" for some reason).

Both big comics fans (natch).

Youngest has ploughed through most of my 70s/80s annuals and more recently my Cor!! collection and is currently onto Monster Fun - already primed him up again for "Great news inside chums!". I think I'll offer up Wow! next, my fave when I was his age. I've moved my oldest up to "appropriate" 2000ad material - Strontium Dog is his favourite. Couldn't let him read current progs right enough - stories featuring Paedos and sheep shaggers just a bit too much I think for the moment.

Finds the old ones MUCH funnier I'm told than current Beano which he still reads every week (on Readly on the tablet).

My youngest, who I mentioned above, is 5 and eldest is 7. They've both recently started watching CBBC more than Cbeebies, but probably my youngest is doing that because he's led by my eldest. I would suspect that the target age for the channel is more like 7 or 8 to 11 or 12..?

Presumably the front cover carries a warning notice to parents about the unsuitable content of a comic for children!

That sounds about right. Cbeebies is meant for kids 6 and under, and CBBC is for kids aged 6-12. And it doesn't surprise me that a 5 year old liked Unleashed more than an 11 year old. The show's target audience is probably 6-9, same as Beano itself.

Dennis, by the way, is supposed to be 10. So "turned into a tweenager" doesn't make sense. I looked it up, that word just means kids aged 10 to 12. Which he always has been.

This week's episodes:

6 Griller Thriller
Dennis' ultimate hero, Grizzly Griller, plans on trekking to the source of the River Beano, broadcasting the treacherous path on live TV. Dennis introduces him to his pet hamster, Galahad - only to discover they are his biggest fear! Grizzly is so afraid that Dennis must disguise himself as his hero and go in his place!
7 Pie Top
Pieface steals Professor Von Screwtop's Pastry-based Intelligent Espionage unit (PIE) after forming a strong bond with the pie-shaped robot. Pieface is dismayed when Walter steals it from him to protect his dad from the embarrassing footage the PIE's memory chip holds.
8 Night of the Living Veg
Mrs Creecher uses the school's allotment to hold Class 3C's 'Biggest Veg' competition before the vegetables start to come alive.
9 "The Hamazing Hamsterman
Dennis gets into a fluffy mess when he runs into Professor Von Screwtop's hadron collider with the professor's pet hamster, Galahad. To stop Dennis from completely changing into a hamster, the gang must sneak him into Wilbur's lab to use his reverse hadron collider and change him back!
10 Prank Wars
Dennis discovers that Ralf the janitor is the legendary Prankmaster General and is told he could become his successor. Walter won't let this happen and challenges him to a prank battle to win Ralf's book of pranking - the infamous Prankypedia.

Professor Screwtop was a character in Lord Snooty in the 1960s (and before, no doubt). The TV version looks totally different though.

The TV character, who has also been appearing in the comic for the last few weeks, is new character Rubi's father. Her own strip is called Rubi's Screwtop Science, but her father was only introduced a few weeks ago despite the strip running for months already. He's been in Rubi's strip and in Dennis's. The original Professor Screwtop dates back to the 40s, where his inventions were used against the Nazis.

As for how he looks, well, Pie-Face doesn't look like his old self now either. They redesigned him and Curly vanished without explanation.

This week's episodes:
11. Give Peas a Chance
Mayor Wilbur passes a law to increase the healthy eating in Beanotown.
12. The Fan
Walter attempts to ruin The Dinmakers' chance of reaching fame.
13. Screwtop Spudswap
Dennis is desperate to prevent Pieface from failing Mrs Creecher's maths test!
14. Are We There Yeti
The gang go on an adventure in search of the Beanotown Yeti.
15. Super Paul
Dennis persuades Pieface that Paul is an undercover super hero.
