All comics need to keep fresh and up-to-date and I totally understand this and I love new characters like Captain Handsome, but NOT at the expense of losing Bananaman - a wonderful creation - now in its 27th year.
Why doesn't The Dandy look after its heritage like the Beano does? What happened to Winker Watson, Beryl the Peril (moved from The Beezer), Korky... all dropped... Don't forget they even tried to get rid of Desperate Dan in 1997!
I don't understand this when the Beano has been trading on the same stars for decades - Dennis the Menace, Roger the Dodger, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids, The Numbskulls, Little Plum...
The mind set of the Beano and Dandy is totally different. I'm all for new characters to bolster the line-up, but what about the old 'classics'?

Re: Dandy's Heritage
To be fair, this has long been the difference between the two comics. The Beano has remained pretty static for decades (in that it's retained its core characters) whilst The Dandy has shuffled its contents to a greater degree.
Personally, of the two comics I always preferred The Dandy because it wasn't afraid of change. I'm afraid I found The Beano a little too set in its ways in comparison. Don't get me wrong; I liked both comics, and they've always been top quality, but Dandy was by far my favourite of the two.
