BANANAMAN IN THE NEWS
Did Steve also help create Bananaman? Because that's what that article hints at.

BANANAMAN IN THE NEWS
Before becoming a cartoonist, Steve?s first job was as a sub-editor on The Beano, writing scripts for the likes of Billy Whizz, Biffo the Bear and Pup Parade. At the age of 19, he was moved to a secluded office at the top of Thomson Towers to assist David Donaldson (who some of you will have seen on the recent TV programme celebrating the Broons 70th birthday) in the creation of a new comic. That comic was Nutty, and Steve?s immediate task was to develop a brief from Dave for a superhero character, transformed from an ordinary kid every time he ate a banana. Steve wrote all the early comic scripts and worked on the character over the next few years before leaving the company to begin his freelance career as a cartoonist in 1983.
Originally drawn by the late John K Geering , Bananaman started on the back page of the Nutty comic launched in 1980, but his popularity grew quickly and he was promoted to the front cover and a double page spread inside. Animation followed, having been chosen in preference to Dennis the Menace and Desperate Dan to be the first DC Thomson character to appear on television, with the BBC series voiced by the Goodies. Nutty lasted a good six years, and after its demise, Bananaman gained a free transfer to The Dandy, where he has been ever since, drawn by a handful of different artists since the sad death of JK Geering in 1999.
Though he had drawn occasional episodes of Bananaman throughout his career when needed, Steve Bright has been the current regular Bananaman artist since the end of 2003, bringing full circle a connection with Bananaman stretching back over 25 years.
