It's extremely poor in my opinion. Plus it never properly aired in the UK for some reason. It's on Disney XD I think...

Really? I've just watched the episode 'Bungee Jump Blues' and thought it very lively. Some laugh out loud moments in that one in my opinion.

I think it's honestly all down to the episodes you watch - I watched two which I found incredibly mediocre.

Waverley Books Tweeted that it will be "less heavy but packed with quality" so don't expect the format to be the same as the weighty Beano one.

I hope I'm wrong but I really can't see them doing individual books about comics that haven't been around for years. One book about the "Fun Factory", covering everything, would be nice though.

Bash Street might get the 2014 Beano-Dandy book - it'll be their 60th anniversary.

That is disappointing news. If ever there was a case to be made for the histories of two comics to be published as a matching pair, The Dandy and The Beano would provide it.

I agree. Any such histories, however desirable they may be, would have to be produced by enthusiasts, at their own expense.

I presume it's down to economics. It's been four years since that Beano one and production costs would now be higher. Better to have a book out that's within customer's affordable budgets than one that'd gather dust on the shelves of bookshops.

I'm sure that's the case but, given that the concept of this history of The Dandy, a 75th anniversary celebration of Thomsons' first born comic, is similar to that of The Beano, which celebrated 70 years of fun, and that we are being promised an equally quality-packed volume, I can only hope that the similarity in historical importance of these two iconic comics is reflected in an equally chunky volume for The Dandy, even if the promised reduction in weight simply means that it has fewer pages. Needless to say, I will buy it anyway, regardless of its shape or size, but I will be very disappointed, as will most other enthusiasts I'm sure, if the resulting volume is similar to that of the annual The Beano and The Dandy and the Oor Wullie and The Broons retrospectives. Even in the long history of comics The Dandy is massive. It stands proud and deserves a celebratory volume to match.

Maybe there could be a limited edition big one that matches the Beano book, sold only online for collectors? The small publisher PS Publishing produced no less than three versions of their Frank Hampson biography!

I wouldnt be surprised if one of the cuts made to the art and history of the Dandy book is the index of all the strips section which featured in the Beano one.

I for one dont want this section to disappear as I found the index in the History of the Beano fascinating reading about all the marvelous strips that have ever appeared in the comic and you can really see from these sorts of things the changing face of popular culture for example early Beano adventure strips seemed to use a lot of strongmen as main characters eg Morgyn the mighty, strang the terrible then go almost superhero style with Jack Flash then end up with adventure stories about boys a little bit older (or the same age) as the average reader.
The humourous strips also change going from gimmicky magic powers eg Sammy's Super Rubber, Hooky's magic bowler hat, Sammy Shrinko, willies wonder gun to mainly about menacing children eg Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx and Bash Street Kids.

A dandy Index would be good as it would show these changes over the years and the main book cant go into great detail about some of the more less notable strips. The Index could give a brief synopsis of a lot of these strips and because of an Index it could make the Dandy seem more complex (as it shows the large variety strips) and larger (in terms of number of strips the sort of fantasy dandy world is larger because of this).
