Thanks, would've posted that myself but my scanner kept giving connection errors.

Unfortunately, it seems the gold completely failed to show up on the scan and looks black.

I met my mate Steve for our regular visit to HMV in Oxford Street and, on the way back, I mentioned to him that we should pop into Smiths as he wanted the Dandy special. We found a lone copy but he decided against buying it as it had a deep dent in the bottom. As he replaced it on the shelf a Smiths worker came over and placed about six more copies on the shelf - superb timing. I have recently started to believe in guardian angles because of a series of odd things that have happened to my benefit - this being one of them.

BTW I have the DC Thomson First Issues book so can enjoy those missing pages from Dandy #1.

Got mine today and it is really good.loved the large selection of strips they use and some nice adventure strips..
The cover is so striking...the old logo looked really nice..
Loads in Guildford WHSmiths two side by side and about 20 issues..in the comic section...

Its the new Classics from the comics!! I really hope there will be more of these types! Also hope Buster will be tried out again..

Issue 1 being republished does make reading the text stories a lot easier..though shame there were a few reprinted at the start...

Though great reproductions...and lots to enjoy..

i picked it up in whs today and had a look through it & put it straight back, does not look worth 6 quid to me doesnt look half as good as the beano ones & I really dont want another incomplete reprint of dandy iss 1 especially if it is included in the final iss as well.but if it is still around in about a month when i have a bit of spare cash i may buy it just for the collections sake.

I think it is brilliant...Ok what we mentioned was a shame...reprinted pages...pages missing from first issue..

But the reprints are wonderful..

loving the Ken Reid pages..
and all the adventure stories chosen..

To buy a 1960's Dandy comic is about £4-5...so this is not too expensive in one way..

Also a good note on the barcode at the back it says issue 1!!!!!!! so more of The Dandy printed for WHSmiths in the future..

So not just Beano specials..

Now if Fleetway could do the same with Buster..Whoopee..Whizzer and chips off the ground.. 8)

Wasn't the similar Beano 70th anniversary magazine four years ago also labelled as issue 1? Yet the Ultimate Summer Specials restarted the numbering. Just because the barcode says #1 doesn't mean there'll be an issue 2. Especially in light of the Dandy's fate.

Looking at the The Beano special all those years ago the one with the cut out hole with Dennis inside...there was no issue 1 on the barcode..

We'll just have to see..

It's a wonderful book a few small flaws.
Firstly the Black Bob serial they reprinted didnt finish the end of the serial. I expected it too for some reason and was disappointed when it didnt.
Also one of the reprints has the Classic Dandy logo on that so they must have sourced it from Classics from the comics. Reprinting a reprint always seems cheap to me and they could have easily removed the Classic Dandy logo in Photoshop.
When they reprint a strip over two pages the bit in the middle is always hard to read this is also true for lots of similiar books and always annoys me because you have to guess what the speech balloon says.
All the strips had a little bit at the top giving an introduction to the strip except for the last strip in the book Jack Silver.
They didnt reprint anything from after 1980. Which was disapointing so there was no Cuddles and Dimples or Bananaman.
Overall though it's a brilliant book and hopefully this book along with the recent Beano Ultimate Summer Specials are almost enough to get me over the demise of Classics from the Comics. Although hopefully these recent reprint books will see them to bringing back Classics from the comics or something similiar.

I believe the Courier building is undergoing massive renovation, so they don't necessarily have the same access as usual to their archives.

I'm still looking for someone (anyone?) willing to buy one and post it to me - contact me via private messages with your Paypal ID and how much doing that will cost you.

I'm interested to see my name on that, as this is the first I've heard of it!

They're naming people without actually inviting them first!?!

Talkiung? lol, someone forgot to spellcheck. And Henry Davis should be Davies.

It also refers to Hunt Emerson as a Dandy artist. But I think Hunt has only appeared in the Dandy when a Ratz strip was reprinted in a Beano advert. So like Laura, another one who probably shouldn't be on the list.

Lew blogged about it last month: http://lewstringer.blogspot.co.uk/2012/ ... r-2nd.html
