A very nice copy of 87th Precinct No.1 has just been delivered. Produced by Top Sellers in the “Alan Class” format, it is a compendium of police, detective and law stories. A nice looking read for the weekend.

I've read every one of Ed McBain's 87th precinct novels. Great books.

philcom55 wrote:Had a nice surprise today when visiting my local market: one of the stalls was completely covered with a selection of near-mint British comics from the 1950s and 1960s. Some I already had, but I managed to pick about 50 that I was really pleased with. But the really remarkable thing was the way that looking at them sent me right back in time to the early 1960s when nearly every British newsagent had a table or counter displaying all the latest comics alongside an eclectic range of back issues going back several months. For about half an hour I felt just like a kid again! :)
where was this ?

Newcastle-under-Lyme, but it was very much a one-off. Normally there's nothing of interest there at all, and the dealer said he didn't have any more comics and wasn't likely to bring back the ones I left. The thing that amazed me was that when I arrived he was just about to pack up having sold almost nothing all day!

Another 5 sub-400 issues of Commando for a very reasonable price.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Picked up Aquaman Showcase volume 1 for £2.99 from a charity shop in Blackheath Village. They had a couple of hundred modern American comics for 99p each but not to my taste. They also had the Green Lantern Showcase volume 1 but I already have that.

I picked up 30 plus annuals for the grand sum of £5. The best part of it was that the seller said that they had been read once. I think he was wrong as some of those annuals looked like they had just come off the presses!

Unusual Tales #1 - Alexander Moring - 1959
Not exactly comics but I bought a few more cards to complete my set of The Pilot Album of Football Fame from the Pilot - 1935. I spent over an hour painstakingly inserting the cards into the album I already had. That took me back a few years!
Commando #25 & #204 improving the poor ones I have
Battle Summer Special 1977
Superman Double Double #1 - Thorpe & Porter - 1968
World's Finest Double Double #1 - Thorpe & Porter - 1968
The Letteromic game from Roy of the Rovers #3 - 1976
Rin Tin Tin #1 - WDL - 1955
Warlord Summer Special 1985
Tiger Holiday Special 1977
Oh Boy! #1 - IPC - 1976
Sandie #1 - IPC - 1972
and delivered this morning.....Warrior #0 direct from Dez. This will be my first read!

How's warrior #0?

Been picking up 2000 lately and am pleased to say the art has improved a lot - getting to be a decent read again after quite an atrocious couple of years.

Went to Spitalfields antique market and bought 56 issues of Mad from around 1979-1981. Most were cents issues with quite a few specials.

Got a couple of Dr Who and a Planet of the Apes (Brown & Watson) annuals. A deep sense of nostalgia, as they were bought for me as Xmas presents previously.

Today, I bought a double serve of Buster from 1960. They were 12/11/1960 and 10/12/1960.

Not quite the very first Buster, but probably likely the closest I will ever get. I will post a couple of strips on my blog once they arrive.

Found a Black Magic album, from Arnold Book co. for just £12, I thought that was a real bargain. Its in really remarkable condition for a 1950s softbacked book.

I've got Startler comic (1930) #2 on its way, and managed to pick up 2 free gift booklets from said Startler.

Also just arrived this morning, an original watercolour painting for Bobby Bears annual, probably 1950s. Does anyone know who the 1950s artist was?
