Ivy has a new artist
Finally, no more Ivy the Terrible reprints. This week's Beano has a new one signed DJP.

Re: Ivy has a new artist
An interesting development. I wonder who the artist is - looking at the initials, it could be David Parkins, but that doesn't look anything like his style and I'd be very surprised if he returned to drawing for the Beano. Other than that I'm out of ideas.
The new style is quite radically different. It's too early to judge whether or not it will work, but it's a big change as there's no real connection with Bob Nixon's style. I think they might be trying something new like they did with Nick Brennan taking over Billy Whizz last year, which has worked well.

Seems to be drawn on computer, like Trevor Metcalfe's second run on Billy Whizz was. I was thinking the same as you about Parkins, I can't think any other current artists with the initials DP. But like you say, the style isn't the same. Anyone able to confirm who the artist is?

Re: Ivy has a new artist
Hello there,
Though I don't frequent fan forums much, I couldn't resist to drop by and introduce myself. The name's Diego Jourdan Pereira and I’m the new artist on Ivy
I'm basically an illustrator working on two sides of the business. On one hand, as Diego Jourdan, I draw comics and other products based on American licensed properties (Ninja Turtles, GI Joe, Astroboy, Toy Story, Uncle Scrooge). On the other, as “Diego J. Pereira†(sometimes signed simply as “Diegoâ€), I’ve followed my bliss drawing humour strips and single panel gag cartoons for a few magazines such as the Australian MAD magazine and currently The Beano

http://lambiek.net/artists/j/jourdan_diego.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Jourdan
I indeed work 100% digitally these days, using a combination of software and my cheapo “Bamboo†Wacom tablet (pencil on Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, ink & color mainly on Adobe Illustrator with some final touches on Photoshop).
May I ask which Ivy strip has seen publication recently? I’m not sure if they’re published chronologically as I turn them in or otherwise; and while I signed the first few as “DJPâ€, any and all future Ivy’s will display my usual “Diego†signature.
I’ll be looking forward to any comments/feedback you may have on my Ivy artwork.
Cheers!

Welcome to this mighty forum, Diego!
Re: Ivy has a new artist
Welcome Diego! No wonder we couldn't identify the artist - I've not heard of you before. The Ivy strip used in last Wednesday's issue was the one where she pretends to be a panda. I assume another will appear in tomorrow's issue. It looks good, I hope you continue for a long time.diegotheterrible wrote:Hello there,

Re: Ivy has a new artist
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
"Panda" was my #2 strip, while i believe #1 will be used for a Beano Annual (you'll see a stronger 90's Nixon influence there). Right now the goal is to move away from my own continental influences while building something new on distinctively British cartooning styles (to me, the holy trinity of Baxendale/Paterson/Nixon), with a touch of my own strong color palette.
UK-born, Uruguayan cartoonist "Fola" is also an influence i cannot escape from: http://lambiek.net/artists/f/fola.htm

See you in the comics!

Re: Ivy has a new artist
I got this week's Beano today. No Ivy strip unfortunately.

Re: Ivy has a new artist
Apparently because none of the ones Diego has drawn so far have been about a power cut, which was a running thread throughout the entire issue. The only strips which didn't involve a power cut in some way were Calamity James and Les Pretend, which were both reprints, Meebo and Zuky, which was Frankenstein themed instead, and Ratz, which being set in the sewers didn't need the power cut explanation for it's glow worm story.
Hopefully Ivy will reappear next week, it's another multiple gift issue (probably to avoid being buried behind the new look Dandy) but doesn't seem to have a set theme, so I'm expecting normal stories.

Re: Ivy has a new artist
Hope everyone enjoyed the third Ivy, which came out today and is one of my favourites so far
Recently, i also began to toy around with a different title banner on each page, experimenting with the vertical format and trying new visual gags each time (a little something extra for the readers to look at)... i'm having fun and hope it shows thru!

Re: Ivy has a new artist
Nice idea, Ivy's earliest strips had a vertical title bar. I assume these two will appear next month, since one of them is Christmas themed.

Re: Ivy has a new artist
"Jungle Ivy" is from an upcoming Summer Annual story, while the other one's for Christmas indeed.
