COMIC CONVENTIONS AND COMIC MARTS

Post by Old Forum Fella »

I rarely hear mention of people here attending comic conventions, meorabillia shows, comic marts etc. Do people here go, and if not, why not?

Next Memorabilia Show is at the NEC in March.

I go to the GLasgow Memorabellia show but its gotten smaller every year, and less and less UK material (comics) available - dominated (in comic terms ) by US books, which I collect, but too few from the 50s to mid 70s era that I collect (well unfair they are there but at inflated prices)I attend the Scottish Comic and Card Mart (Glasgow) regularly (its every couple of months I think now) although this is much smaller than others, theres always something of value and interest when I go.

I go as often as I can to the Manchester Comic Mart held at the Sachas Hotel about six times a year. Sometimes it's better than others. Last time I went there were a lot of British comics on sale.

I thought more people here would attend such cons and marts. Very interesting. Wonder why they don't?

I attend more the festival/con side of thing than marts, as I'm more a seller of my own stuff and go for the socialising and the events as well. have been to the odd Mart but I'm in the middle of nowhere and can't be bothered. When in London I've been to marts. I'll be at Bristol next in May. I reckon that should be fun. Cheers, Paul.

I would say conventions are very poor on selling older UK titles. I tend to go to specialised dealers for these, although the ABCD fair in London is usually good as a number of those dealers attend it, where they dont the larger ones (I think).

I might now attend a comic fair if there's an artist or writer I'd like to contact - Kim and myself went to Brighton at the end of last year specially to meet Bill Titcombe, and hear him being interviewed with John Burns by Graham Kibble-White, who I also had a chat to when I bought his 'Ultimate Book of British Comics'.

Karen and I have been to the odd convention/mart. I like to go to meet some of the artists and to sometimes pick up the odd bargain.

Last one attended was in May 05 at Bristol. Any idea if it will be the same format this year? We would go to more, but cost is always a factor in our attending events.

Last time, I picked up 140 Victors for 40 quid. Best bargain that I have had in a long time.

Look forward to picking up more but Brit stuff is getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price.
