Rebellion do, but this smashing retro cover isn't anything to do with that.

Rebellion are giving away a 48-page 2000 AD sampler, with new Judge Dredd and Zombo stories: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/ ... =STK525394

Also of interest, IDW are giving away a "Judge Dredd Classics" sampler: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/ ... =STK525516

It was the striking logo with the accompanying words "Starring the New Dan Dare" that got me hooked even before I got the first issue. I got to know Eagle's Dan Dare through my father who bought me the Best of Eagle a few years earlier.
The Best of Eagle was published in 1977. Perhaps it was the 1974 Dan Dare Annual that you'd seen?
Just checked my copy and you are right - 1977. Obviously my memory is up the creek :) though Best of Eagle was undoubtably the first time I saw a Dan Dare strip.

I saw this issue on the shelf & actually thought it was a special reprint issue, the cover stood out a mile in he shop & I hope they revert back to this logo permanently.

It really is a corker of a cover - it does its job attracting the eye on the shelf in Smiths!

It's a brilliant cover. I spotted it easily while engaged on a doomed search for Strip Magazine. I bought 2000AD instead, plus a Commando.

Not surprisingly it is back to the normal logo this week.

Funnily enough my local WH Smith's kept last week's issue on sale alongside the new one. Presumably they thought it was either a Special or a different comic altogether!

Ha, they did the same in WH Smith in Manchester Piccadilly station!

It'd be nice if they did another retro cover in a few years' time.

It would be a good move to switch permanently back to the old logo for 2000AD, because the current one is entirely boring. If anyone's interested by the way, there's a huge stash of old 2000ADs running from about prog 400 in the Comic and Book Exchange in Notting Hill at the moment - all going for 10p each. They are in the basement of their second shop a few doors down from the main one.
