There appears to be a comic mart planned for Glasgow on 8th. March, Renfield Centre, Bath St. 11am - 4pm. Entry free.
some info here:-

Sorry to be so late posting this but Wee John only found about about it at the weekend, so there seems to be a distinct lack of publicity.
Please update this if anyone has an further information.

Just received a note from Vince that there appears to ba another event this Sat. in glasgow. Vince had this note from Jim Alexander:-

"> There's a Glasgow comic mart being held this weekend (Sat1 & Sun 2
> March) at the Buff Club, 142 Bath Lane, Glasgow G2 4SQ. The mart is
> free entry and open to all ages. U-14s should be accompanied by an
> adult. Opening times for both days are 10am-6pm.
>
> Planet Jimbot will have a table, so if you're in the vicinity pop in
> and say hello. On sale will be Gabriel, Amongst the Stars, Wolf
> Country, Savant, Amazing & Fantastic Tales and possibly hopefully Food
> Chain, which will quite literally be hot off the press.
>
> We'll also have copies of the GoodCopBadCop trade from Rough Cut. And
> to celebrate the fact the weekend is All Ages, we'll be giving a free
> Cartoon Network comic (Jim Alexander will have scripted one of the
> stories inside) with every Planet Jimbot purchase. Any advance
> request/questions drop us a line. Otherwise see you there/then."

I get the feeling this is mainly a small press do and, if it's anything like the last one of this sort, there wont be many old comics there. Only my guess. The only way to find out is to turn up. I can't be there as my wife has suggested (translates as "told me") that I take her out :roll:

I can't help wondering if "the Buff' and "in the Buff" mean the same things up there that they do down here. Could there be some connection with the timeless mystery of what Scotsmen keep under their kilts...? :?

Thanks very much for the tip Paw Broon, I've let my wife and daughter know they will have to manage without my company for a few hours on Saturday while I attend the Glasgow Comic Mart - hope to see you there!

That isn't Vince Deighan by any chance is it? And will he be there too?

No, 'fraid not, Colin. Although I did see a bit of the documentary on him last night. The non F.Q. Vince will be amused that there could be any confusion. Size, shape, age, lack of any artistic talent? Apart from that they're very similar.

More to the point, will we see you at the mart on Sat? Might not be much for you but you never know.

They don't always mean the same things down here, Phil. For example, the Saturday night football edition of The Bolton Evening News was called The Buff. Here's an example from Grand National Day in 1973.

A good day, yesterday, with 2 dealers having some British comics and annuals. I picked up a TV Tornado from 1968;
TV21 from1970;
Lion & Champion from 1967;
Lion & Thunder from 1974;
Valiant from 1974;
Girls' Crystal from 1949;
Film Fun from 1959;
3 x Radio Fun, 2 with the Falcon in costume;
Hotspur from 1954;
Marilyn from 1958;

There was a table with piles of tpb's at really low prices and they were being snapped up.
a fair bit of small press, cupcakes, the usual 50p. boxes, some seriously collectable American S.A. And stuff.
For a relatively small market, there was a good turnout. Good fun all round and, as an added bonus, some of us had lunch in a Thai restaurant, just up the road.

I went too. Got the first two appearance of Moon Knight (I used to be a big big fan but gave them up when I moved abraod) and a Ghost Rider I'd not got (pretty unusual that). But busier than expected.

The next mart in Glasgow will be Saturday 6th Dec. at the Renfield Centre, 260 Bath St. 11a.m. - 5p.m. Admission free. This one is billed as a "Christmas Special". All being well I'll be there, as a punter, so if anyone else fancies it, I'm always up for coffee and buns.
