Where is it from?

Now I have just bought these beauties from an agent for John Cooper so the provenance is undisputed.

The only problem is that John can't recall who commissioned this. The agent thinks they may have been chapter titles for a book. I have my own opinion as I have all 15 so I will not say anything at the moment as it is as much a guess as the agent's.

Anyone ever seen these before?
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
