New IPC/Fleetway blog

Post by moloneymagic »

Hi all, with great trepidation I have just launched a new blog about IPC/Fleetway comics of the 1970s and 1980s. It's at http://www.greatnewsforallreaders.com and the first post has a free gift of a mergers wallchart.

Please take a look and I hope you like it. I suspect the members of this forum are the people most likely to be able to point out if I've made any mistakes so please be kind, but I'd really appreciate any constructive comments you are able to make.

Thank you!
Dx

I'm afraid Virgin Media says the blog is not available. Perhaps there is an error in your link?

Thanks Shiner and colcool007! There should be at least four more posts as I thought I'd better write some in advance before going live :) It's more time-consuming than I'd expected, but lots of fun too so I hope there will be a few more than four ...

Thanks very much klakadak and Peter. It looks as though I've had a few referrals from there already. That's a really handy list of blogs - looks as though there's loads I can learn from all of them.

A Great Wall chart, a real labour of love.

You could include

'transformers generation 2' title that was published in1994-5

Enid Blyton's mystery and suspense from 1997 (although these are mainly illustrated stories than comic strips)

Road Maniax - only 2 sort of tester issues.

Thanks Richard. I decided to limit it to comics published before Fleetway was taken over by Egmont (I think 1991?), and their direct predecessors in the family tree. This was partly because my blog is focused on the 1970s and 1980s, but also because I thought I'd better set some sort of limit for myself! :-) The only exception is Roy of the Rovers Monthly which I thought was justified for inclusion as a sort of follow-on from the weekly comic.

An excellent entry on your blog! A great overview of Cheeky Weekly, with some nice, fun scans.

Just a thought: you could give a chronological list of all the posters of Cheeky's ensemble cast that featured in the early issues. The early ones were offered a double spread in colour. The later ones were condensed to a single page. Still, it would be nice to have a full index. Perhaps this has already been done somewhere. If not... fill yer boots!
