Desperately Seeking Suzy Stories 1984

Discuss all the girls comics that have appeared over the years. Excellent titles like Bunty, Misty, Spellbound, Tammy and June, amongst many others, can all be remembered here.

Desperately Seeking Suzy Stories 1984

Post by helloclare »

I am on the hunt for three stories that appeared in Suzy Tops comic. After searching for several years, I have just found out the names of the stories and the actual issues they appeared in. If anyone out there has copies I would love to see them again, if you are happy to scan them... They are:

Suzy
Lucy On The Long Road Home - #89 (May 19 1984) – #98 (July 21 1984).
Sister Of Hate - #106 (September 15 1984) – #115 (November 17 1984).
The Talisman Of Terror - #88 (May 12 1984) – #89 (May 19 1984). It was described in advance as ‘a two-part thriller’.

Many thanks
Clare

I have no Suzys. You could try 30th Century Comics. eBay is another option, but it all depends on what shows up.

There's no point. 30th Century haven't any either.

I get the impression Suzy is not an easy title to find...

It certainly seems that way. There is a copy of issue 237 on eBay as we speak but that's the only one, and I already have a copy.

By the way, does anyone have the start and end dates for another Suzy serial, "Force of Evil"? And also, what's the name of the protagonist please? Thanks for any help.

Force Of Evil ran in Suzy 170 (Dec. 7 1985) - 181 (Feb. 22 1986). I did not note down the name of the protagonist during my British Library trawl through the issues of Suzy that I don't possess. If it is of any help, Tammyfan, what little I did write was The Sin-Pact forces have invaded, and are now in control of Great Britain.

Thank you Phoenix. I know the protagonist's last name is Potter (no connection to Harry Potter), but I don't remember her first name. Personally, I think "Force of Evil" was one of Suzy's best.

She will have to join first as she will not be allowed into any of the reading rooms without showing her membership card to the person sitting at the desk just inside the door of whichever reading room she will eventually ask for her selection of volumes to be delivered to. Whenever members order up, inside their choice of reading room, any volumes they require, and when they are subsequently handed over to them, again they have to show their membership card, which naturally has their photograph on it, and state the number of the desk at which they are intending to study. Naturally, when she first arrives there all she needs to do is tell any one of the security people on the front doors that she needs to become a member, and they will direct her to the appropriate room. The British Library is a fantastic resource. I love it. The food in the cafe is definitely on the high side of pricey though. I go to a nearby pub for my lunch but I skip tea if I plan to work late, and grab a burger later.

Let's face it - blackmail serials were pretty common. But not stories where a girl gets conflicted because her father appears to be a traitor, yet she can't believe it while not knowing one way or other. Or where Britain falls under an oppressive invading force and is turning into an authoritarian country.

Didn't Suzy have a story about a high diver who has to stay with an unfriendly aunt and jealous cousin? The cousin goes as far as to set fire to her own room and put the blame on our heroine, just to get rid of her! Cor blimey!

In a sequel, the heroine loses her form after another jealous girl puts oil on the diving board, causing her to have a bad accident.

Or maybe the stories were in Girl II. It could have been.

Yes, it was Star Of The Secret Pool. It ran in Suzy 35 (May 7 1983) - 50 (Aug. 20 1983).
