It was originally written by Fred Baker, and drawn by Ramiro Bujeiro - an Argentinian artist who'd worked in the Solano Lopez studio.

Thanks very much for your reply!!! I am searching for another football comic artist who's works have been published in Greece during the '80s but unfortunately I can't find him so far. May I send you a PM? Or can you send me a message to aNwDyNos@gmail.com ? Thanks in advance

It's probably best to ask the whole group any questions Nikos. I'm certainly no expert on football comics and there are people here who know more about artists than I ever will. :)

Nikos has sent me some scans of British football strips as they appeared in Greek comics which I've managed to convert so they can be posted here. He is particularly interested in identifying the artist of these stories, along with details of their original appearances (apparently the Greek titles translate as 'Sid's Shadow', 'Fateful (or Poor) Joe' and 'Informal'). Not being any kind of expert on Football comics I've been unable to place any of them, though I'm inclined to think the artist could be Eric Bradbury.

What does anyone else think?

Not Eric Bradbury but Frederico Maidagan and all, I think, from Victor. I say think because one I just can't place but I'm pretty sure is from Victor. The two I can identify are "Sid's Shadow" same title from issues 1146 05/02/1983 to 1160 14/05/1983 and "Informal" which was "The Brain Behind the Rangers" issues 1126 18/09/1982 to 1138 11/12/1982. Later reprinted as "The Has-Been" in issues 1459 04/02/1989 to 1471 29/04/1989.

That's excellent Chris! I guessed they must be DC Thomson strips as I know much less about Victor et al. than Fleetway's titles. I confess that Maidagan is a new name to me, but my suggestion of Bradbury was very tentative (and I can usually spot him at a glance).

Here are two more called 'The Legend' and 'The Cyclist' - are these Thomson strips by Maidagan as well?

Hi Phil, "The Legend" same title again is by Maidagan but is not a Thomson strip. It's from Roy of the Rovers and ran from 26/01/1985 to 10/08/1985. The second strip I don't think is by Thomson's either. Is it "Whizz Wheels" from Whizzer and Chips?

The artist is certainly Sandy Calder.

Marvellous! THIS one I recognize as Charlie Ironsides from Scorcher, but I don't know the artist. Nikos suggests Osvaldo Torta - can anyone confirm that?

...And how about these two? (translated as 'Superman for 5 Minutes' and 'Robot Manager')

"Superman for 5 Minutes" is "5 Minute Superman" from Bullet, issues 102 21/01/1978 to 107 25/02/1978 and "Robot Manager" is "Steelman's Eleven" from Victor issues 882 14/01/1978 to 893 01/04/1978. The skateboarding one I'm not sure about but could it be "Skate Mates" from Whizzer and Chips which ran in the early eighties. That was by Sandy Calder though I seem to remember they were on skates not boards. Having said that, I have not seen enough of it to know if they used boards as well.
