I could not see this free gift in your free gift section so thought you may like to see some scans? I guess they were trying to draw in previous war and sports readers having the two different gifts? I can not remember getting two in one comic?

That is some seriously lush art on those cover illustrations.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Thanks, matrix. I'll add those images to my blog posts and credit you.

I wonder if the cover paintings were new, or reused from the Fleetway libraries?

I've given my blog a quick makeover with a new logo designed to look like a tatty old comic.

Yes, I used Photoshop to lift it from an old 1966 Beano I had, so it's actually an authentic newsagent's writing. :)

I know a lot of collectors don't like to see that writing, but I love it as it gives the comic more cultural significance as someone had to like the comic so much that they placed an order for it every week or month with their local newsagent so that they would get a copy each week and not miss any issues.

I don't mind it at all. It's the condition of the comic that's important to me. I had various comics regularly in the 1960s but the only ones I had reserved were Beano, Pow!, Fantastic, and Terrific. Presumably Beano sold out quickly, and the others were in shorter supply. My corner shop wrote my name on Beano and Pow!, but my aunt reserved me Fantastic and Terrific from a newsagent in town and the lady there used to remember who had what without writing names on the comics.

I had a friend who worked at the local newsagent's shop, and one of my copies of the Eagle was delivered with my name, full address and postcode, followed by England, Planet Earth, Milky Way Galaxy, The Universe on the back cover! :)

A reasonably knowledgeable paper boy/girl then, Phil. Clearly a Dan Dare enthusiast. Nowadays he/she would need to get his/her head round the concept of our galaxy being far from alone in the great blue yonder.

I love the new logo for Blimey!, Lew.
