Re: The Beano 75 years issue whats inside...its guessing tim

This thread reminded me of the excellent Beano Top 100 series Ray Moore (Kashgar) ran for the Beano's 70th birthday five years ago - I've provided a link to the original thread, which I recommend all Beano fans should read: http://www.comicsuk.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2061 Using the idea of a...

Taking this line of discussion towards its natural conclusion, who's saying that (whether new or reprinted) the Cuddles and Dimples strips will be drawn by Nigel at all?

Re: Comics UK Comic?

Maybe it would be a better idea to pitch for a slightly older target audience than the Beano or Dandy? I'm not suggesting entering 'Viz' territory - but I think aiming at a demographic of, say, 8-13 year olds could allow longer stories and more character development than in a comic for 7-11 year old...

Re: Danny & Katey story from 15 years ago

That strip looks rather like David Parkins to me, but I might be wrong. I think he was Dan's main artist for a while in the 1990s so it would make sense. The artwork looks more like the slightly refined style he used on Dennis the Menace, rather than that of his Billy Whizz and Fred's Bed which both...

Re: simple database

Although spreadsheets can be used to create databases, but you'd be better off using proper database software. I don't know which computer operating system you're using, but on Windows a program like Microsoft Access would be suitable. You could use it, or similar software, to create the appropriate...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

Dave definitely shows no sign of retiring. I've been very glad he has stayed well all these years. If Foo-Foo had a fault it was that he could be one dimensional apart from the Fairy Tales came along. Claudius could be a far better match for Gnasher, and has the added dimension that he is quite pro...

Re: Where has Tom Paterson gone?

Publishing letters on reader's pages which criticise and point out mistakes in a comic is occassionally amusing and something I'd consider quite mature for a comic instead of having a reader's page as pure propoganda, which is currently the case in the Beano. I agree - I remember one issue of the B...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

I noticed the similarity too - I suppose there's only so many things that can be done to mark the start of the summer holidays, but it's a shame the Beano staff didn't come up with something different to last year. By the way, welcome to the forum, LordSnooty2. I do agree having a front cover strip ...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

If you mean the regular Web Boy artist, then I think you're referring to Jon Rushby - I can't recall any Web Boy strips being drawn by any other artist, and he drew both of Web Boy's Beano Annual strips (2002 and 2003, respectively). However, I do also remember him drawing a number of Bash Street Ki...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

Nigel Parkinson has also drawn a fair few Bash Street Kids strips, particularly in 1999-2001. He hasn't done so many since then - I think most of the strips he drew were when David Parkins was still able to draw Dennis most weeks. Of course, the vast majority of the BSK strips I've seen have been dr...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

This weeks and last weeks issues of the Beano carry the Banner "grown-ups banned". I miss the days when the comic used to make light hearted fun of adult readers. Also this week's beano cover is the worst for a while. Mainly because of how's walter's face and hands are drawn (he's clearly meant to ...

Re: Come on Andy

One thing that struck me last night (I watched part of the game, as I only joined after the golf coverage ended) was how poor Team GB looked compared to Brazil. Despite the presence of Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy, GB seemed like an under-21 team playing a full strength international team. Compare S...

Re: Subtle advertising

Over the years there must have been countless examples of strips plugging the comics they appear in. For instance, there have been stories which have promoted a free gift that appears in the comic the following week, or where the characters read the comic - in more recent times, often the covers of ...

Re: Dandy Annual 2013

Great work on The Smasher, Lew - I think your version manages to capture the spirit of Hugh Morren's strips, without slavishly copying the original. Shame about the printing error in the annual though, hopefully as you say it was simply a mistake in pagination or similar, rather than in place of ano...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

I think Mike Pearse always numbered his Singled Out pages - he did this with his The Three Bears strips as well, and on his long stories (most commonly seen around 1999-2001, plus the 2004-2006 Beano Annuals) he numbered each individual pages. Hunt Emerson has numbered all his Beano pages as well, b...
