Re: Comics on TV
Excellent work again, Digi.
Steve - the actor with the guitar was required to play a character with aspirations to be a singer despite having no musical ability, so his renditions were deliberately appalling and extremely annoying.

There's another Beano on display in the 'United We Sit' episode of Please Sir! originally broadcast on 04 December 1971.

From Children's Film Foundation feature Supersonic Saucer (1956 or 1958 depending on which source you choose to believe - there's no year shown in the credits)... http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll33/Galaxus/saucer1_zpsmye8kb2j.png http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll33/Galaxus/saucer2_zpslbqs3c...

Re: Comics on TV
Good suggestions, Digi. I agree with Jakob that 2099 seems to most closely match the cover shown in the screen grabs.

Re: Comics on TV
Was watching Top Of The Pops 1982 last Thursday: The first act was The Piranhas featuring Boring Bob Grover doing "Zambesi" - Bob was in a Dennis the Menace style jersey with a rolled up copy of the Beano in his pocket. That edition is getting repeated at 10:30 on BBC4 tonight. Thanks for the info ...

From British film All Neat In Black Stockings (1968). In one scene we see the contents of a scrapbook belonging to an artist. Into one of the pages has been pasted part of the cover of the same year's SMASH! POW! It's FANTASTIC SUMMER SPECIAL . http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll33/Galaxus/anibs1_...

From the Doctor At Large episode entitled Change Your Partners, originally broadcast 11 April 1971. This episode concerns the romantic dilemma in which Michael Upton finds himself when, despite being the object of Su's affections (Su is played by the gorgeous Madeline Smith), he pursues another woma...

Chips' Comic
This is an interesting article, documenting an unusual spin on the concept of the 'TV tie-in comic'. Apparently Chips' Comic was a TV programme for young children in which the characters were seen 'preparing' issues of the titular magazine that really were available to buy. Never heard of it myself.

Re: Comics on TV
From Poor Cow (1967). In this scene Joy (Carol White) asks Dave (Terence Stamp) if she can read one of his comics. He hands over what he tells her is a copy of 'Lewis Lane featuring Superman's girlfiend', so Dave is clearly no comics aficionado. I recorded the film when it was shown on the Talking P...

Thanks Rab - the enticing prospect of an appearance by the fragrant Carol has strengthened my resolve to reach the final Please Sir! disc (yes, my box set is the same as yours).

Re: Comics on TV
I watched a few of the early series of Grange Hill on Youtube a couple of years ago and thought they were still good, but I bailed out before the rot set in. I downloaded the Grange Hill spinoff Tucker's Luck a while back but haven't got round to watching it yet.
