Re: What comics did you buy today?
I've spoken to Rebellion about all these questions on ownership. For now, all they have to say is "While we’re obviously delighted with people’s interest in the IPC Youth Group titles, we feel it would be premature to announce anything definitive at this stage." As you'll have seen from downthetubes...

Re: Rebellion acquire Egmont's archive of strips and charact
does anyone know if this story was in any of the news papers as im sure it would have prob made the news even back when we were kids when weekly comics were the norm. The BBC first carried the story as an exclusive on their web site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-37177877 The Oxf...

Re: Rebellion acquire Egmont's archive of strips and charact
I hear Adam Eterno is now part of the deal (along with the rest of Thunder). Weird, as, when I was reprinting the Leopard from Lime Street, I was also trying to reprint Adam but it was IPC I was directed to (who asked for over 5 x what Egmont wanted!). Still, good news! I updated my article yesterd...

Re: Rebellion acquire Egmont's archive of strips and charact
Maybe a small niggly point but Whizzer & Chips was first printed in October 1969. It now belongs to Rebellion under this deal so I'm wondering whether the cut off is June 1969 which was mentioned a couple of times in Dez Skinn's Comics International magazine some years ago. This was supposedly the ...

Re: Rebellion acquire Egmont's archive of strips and charact
Its great news, these characters are now in the hands of a publisher who publish weekly and monthly newsagent distributed comics. They know what they have bought, but it going to be a mammoth undertaking to to a stock count of exactly what they own and digitise, it really is years work. For British...

Re: To Con or Not to Con?
As for your question about commercialisation, the large multimedia shows can be just as rewarding as the smaller, comics-focused ones. I've met people at the multimedia shows who wouldn't normally attend a comics only event, but stop by my table because they've become intrigued when they notice I'm...

By Gum! Exhibtion Gets the thumbs up
Tuesday 9th August saw the official launch of “The Story of British Comics So Far: Cor! By Gum! Zarjaz!” at the Lightbox in Woking, which runs until December. Richard Sheaf reports on the opening night which included a talk from Paul Gravett and had a look around the amazing exhibition, which featur...

Re: To Con or Not to Con?
... conventions aren't about comics any more, they're about the character properties that the media bandwagons can make them into. Hence my previous assertation. Let's not call them comic conventions anymore, because they are plainly not and haven't been since the late nineties, when the comic indu...

UK Comic Sales Figures - January to June 2016
I've just posted my piece on the latest figures for UK young children's /comic titles: http://downthetubes.net/?p=33120 Some good and bad news for publishers. Note that the major "comics" - ie titles that are wall to wall comic such as The Beano - didn't report in this period, we'll get those later ...

Re: To Con or Not to Con?
Most of the marts I've attended recently in Birmingham, Manchester and London have included a reasonable number of dealers selling British comics - even if American comic books are the main item. It's the big MCM-type events that leave me feeling as though they have nothing to interest my generatio...

Yeah -- that's ridiculous, by any standards!Adam Eterno wrote:My only recent experience of a Comic con was in Southampton last year when there wasn't a single comic on sale, old/new/UK or US
