Re: STRIP Magazine in UK comic shops 2nd November

I've just pre-ordered a copy of Strip Magazine #2 via the Forbidden Planet website. FP say they expect to receive their copies on Dec 6.

Re: The Phoenix issue zero

So, I went to the Phoenix website and to the subscribers page, and find that there is no provision for subscribers from overseas. C'mon folks, this is a global economy in the 21st century and 2000AD having been doing this for years... So, Phoenix (and Strip Magazine), please offer subscriptions to o...

Re: Lindy Annual.

Hi Phil, I don't have that particular issue, but I do have the next one, so I surmise that the "exciting news" was referring to the 4 week astrological poster they were giving away. Funnily enough, in that next issue too (5 March 1977), the Lindy logo on the cover shrunk considerably, before disappe...

Re: Pat Mills planning to revive UK girls' comics

I would have thought a revamped Misty-style comic for the 21st Century would be more likely. That would be my thoughts too. The DFC proves that capable quality creators are out there as well. It seems that Egmont so far have been more amenable to reprints of IPC material (post 1970) than have DC Co...

Re: Great news inside for all readers

Sorry I haven't added more to this thread yet, its been a busy month...however I will let powerfan know what I thought was strange about the Jinty and Lindy merger announcement in the pre-merger Jinty issue: although the announcement mentioned two completely new stories, it didn't actually mention w...

Re: Great news inside for all readers

Back on topic :) , here's another merger, this time between two IPC girls' comics: Jinty and the short-lived (20 weeks) Lindy. There was something odd about the actual announcement inside the Jinty comic though, see if you can work out what it was... What was a bit odd about the announcement...

Re: Great news inside for all readers

And for those who don't know what the fuss is about, here are pics of the last Wanted poster from Whoopee (5 October 1974), and the first World Wide Weirdies from Whoopee and Shiver and Shake (12 October 1974).

Re: Great news inside for all readers

These pics include the cover of the first merger Whoopee and Shiver and Shake from 12 October 1974, along with the Whoopee editorial page talking about the upcoming merger. I've also uploaded a scan of the first page of the "Shiver Section" - but you'd better be careful cos "It's Haunted"

Re: Great news inside for all readers

Next up, since Peter Gray and I were sort of discussing this one: the merger of Whoopee and Shiver and Shake in late 1974 - I note IPC took advantage of this one to shrink the page count of Whoopee from 40 to 32... :( I kinda agree with Peter that Whoopee did well out of this one, especially in gain...

The same merger again, this time with the inside editorials from the newly merged Jinty and Lindy.

Re: A Girls comic mystery..

@Big Bad Bri: There is this quote from "Back from the Depths", the Scream! website: "Then, after only 15 issues, (in June 1984) Scream! mysteriously ended. Rumours of strikes at IPC Magazines, the comic's creators, could have been the cause." Given what we know about Tammy, and the strikes, it would...

Re: A Girls comic mystery..

Hi Niblet, Andy B isn't totally incorrect, since he got a strike and girls comic cancellation right, only this was 1984 and Tammy, not 1980 and Pink! I had a look at my 2000AD copies, and saw that 2000AD was not published on 14, 21 or 28 July 1984, and the KP skips ad (Tammy is whited-out on the cou...

Re: Great news inside for all readers

@Steelclaw, yes, I discovered your Knockout site from your signature a while ago, I enjoyed perusing it immensely. I have all the various Whizzer and Chips issues with Knockout on the cover, so if you'd like scans of the covers you don't have, or any info about their contents, do give me a PM. @Pete...

Re: A Girls comic mystery..

@Philcom, I think you may be right there, as given the info here: http://www.dandare.info/history/fleet_index.htm the date fits very nicely. I guess Pink was off my register (and particularly as a 13 year old boy in 1980 :) ) because from what I can find about it, it was aimed at older teenage girls...
