Re: Big news for Ken Reid fans!
A big package has arrived in London and these are the glorious contents. The reproduction is beyond what I dared hope for, the packaging excellent, and the overall product is sublime. The extensive afternotes have me anxious for more, though I've several hundred pages to keep me busy until then. Exc...

Re: Issue 1
Nothing in the large(ish) one in Westfield, Stratford either. I think I'll give up trying in store as it is costing me a fortune - every time I visit I end up buying something anyway! On the good news front, my subscription copy of issue 1 turned up on Thursday - just a day before issue 3, which mak...

They may even go as far as seeing it as some kind of scam. Phoenix wrote: They may even go as far as seeing it as some kind of scam. Why have you applied FM's comment to me, ogtec, and since I never said it in the first place, how have you managed to present it as a quote? Sorry. Messed up the edit...

Re: Issue 1
In any case, they would have a record of anyone who had already bought issue 1 from them, and who then decided to take out a subscription. And you say you had an email saying that issue 1 would be the first issue of your sub - when it wasn't, it gave you justified grounds to complain. In both cases...

Re: Issue 1
I'm not sure why there are now thoughts of sharp practice by the Phoenix' publishers. Surely it is clear it was just a mistake on the web-site? If they were in the business of trying to trick people in to buying back issues they'd have those back issues available on their website. The fact that this...

Re: Issue 1
I was assured that the arrangement with Waitrose is on, so perhaps some shops are just late putting them out? I understand there has also been interest from other retailers. I'm going to try again tonight on the way home to see if there's any availabilty now we're a couple of days in to the first w...

Re: Issue 1
Well, there's a big one here (Westfield, E London) and there's no sign of it. Nor in the Canary Wharf branch.

Re: JOHN RIDGWAY'S NEW UK PROJECT
Five years later... There's a good interview with John Ridgway over at The Comics Journal where he touches on his current work, how his career has progressed to date, and his views on the state of the current UK comics market. Perhaps 'Age of Heroes' is a left-over from this seemingly abandoned anth...

The Garth was nice, and easily identifiable, but I swear there was a brief glimpse of a Krazy Kat page, which is amazing - assuming my eyes aren't playing up(!)

Re: Fantasy Football anyone?
And as for you George Xydas, just how friggin' many teams are there in that other league of yours Iain Dale's League ? I got fed up hitting the page next button on the list of teams page :o Oooh! There goes my secret identity! It's a West Ham league, so there's likely to be about 65 million fans in...

I'm also on board, with my now-traditional team name (albeit not UK Comics related). As it stands I hope to break in to the Big 4 this season...

Re: James Bond Omnibus
I find the early, John McLusky-drawn ones, a bit stiff. The art seems old-fashioned somehow, although there's nothing really wrong with it. I've really enjoyed the Yaroslav Horak ones though; his art was a revelation to me and it seems quite a surprise that such a stylised look was run in a mass-cir...

Re: Walthamstow Avenue FC in the comics?
I can't help with the particular query I'm afraid, but I do recall that there was an article about Wathamstow Ave (etc.) in When Saturday Comes a while back - maybe ten years? It was titled something along the lines of The Team that Ate East London and focused on the complicated history of mergers t...

In an unusual case of joined-up thinking my local Smiths stocked the special right next to the current Classic from the Comics. A ncie looking package - quick a few text features as well.
