Re: Motorcycle madness

Received this Action library comic a few days ago with a motorcycle 'wall of death' cover, nice story and art as well. It came with a couple of others and have to say some of the art work in these Action library comics is very good does anyone know who was working on these? The date is 1969.

Re: Motorcycle madness

Thanks for pointing me to those Adam, and Derek for the dates. I do have all of those examples but always on the lookout so any help is much appreciated. I have over fifty Champion MC covers but I am sure there are many more? Also just picked up my second Champion Library MC cover and story no55 so ...

Re: Speedway Illustrations

Thanks Derek for the heads up on that annual. I believe you mean 1951? Which I did purchase a while back for as you mentioned "It has a very nice speedway illustration on it's front cover". I did say to myself that I would not include annuals in the collection but could not resist that one and four ...

Re: Early masked mystery men

He is referred to as the "mystery man" on a few occasions but also the "Hooded Unknown" as per scan. In the other scan you can clearly see him using his powers. I only have three issues that mention this character so they may give him another name?

I think he looks cool!

Re: Early masked mystery men

Those examples remind me of 'The Bullseye' and 'The Surprise' comics Paw. There is a hooded mystery man in 'The Bullseye' (scan below) "he leaves behind a scarlet emblem that is beyond all human power to erase" "he can pass through bolted doors right into the secret strongholds of crime". He knows a...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Isn't it great when you get something you don't expect (in a nice way I mean). I received my ebay purchase of the complete run of Sports for Boys (1-28), printed by Amalgamated Press 1920/21. In 2 bound volumes, they are in lovely condition, and as I was looking through them, I suddenly realised th...

Re: roland davies

That is a nice example Phil. Is his original art hard to come by? Illustration do not have any examples unless I missed them? Do you have to pay a tidy sum for his work? Do you know what examples of RD Norman used in his 'Masters of Fun and Thrills' book? I have been waiting for one to come up for s...

Re: roland davies

This is a post for matrix. I have discovered that there is a serial for girls in the D.C. Thomson comic Spellbound , which has a large number of panels featuring motorbikes. The story is The Nine Lives Of Kitty Foster and runs from 61 (Nov. 19 1977) - 69 (Jan. 14 1978). I am too busy to post exampl...

Re: Blimey! Blog Updates

I could not see this free gift in your free gift section so thought you may like to see some scans? I guess they were trying to draw in previous war and sports readers having the two different gifts? I can not remember getting two in one comic?

Thanks Richard. I have never seen those other issues, I thought there were only the three so had not been looking. I have had mine for a couple of years and got them out the other day when in the mood for a post!

Re: Motorcycle madness

Hi Matrix, I. Also collect Wheels but I'm not clear how long is lasted - any ideas? Hi Richard As far as I know there were only the two numbered issues no1 and no2 plus the preview, so as it was bi-monthly probably no longer than ten weeks. Do you think Jack Justice is original or reprinted? They w...

Re: Motorcycle madness

In 1978 Byblos productions put out a title called 'Wheels', mostly motorcycle stories. It ran for two issues plus the preview issue scanned below. A character called 'Jack Justice' was the main story in all the comics, having run for three issues you can tell it was a popular! So not expecting a lot...
