Picked up Broons/Oor Wullie Through the Ages and the Broons annual at the weekend.
There's several strips in the Broons annual that are clearly reprints from the 80s, with altered dialogue (the one that ends with Paw listening to the fitba' on the radio is the most obvious).

Re: Breaking the fourth wall
I always enjoyed the way that Wullie and the Broons referenced other publications in the Thomson empire. The Broons would often be seen reading some suitable Thomson publication relative to their age and sex while Wullie, on a number of occasions, had adventures that spiralled out from some charact...

Re: Breaking the fourth wall
Oor Wullie and his English counterpart Ginger both addressed the reader especially at the end of strips. The Ken Harrison Wullie strips had him address the readers an awful lot in-story. Infact a few strips even made it clear he was famous and he was aware of it too :) A recent Davidson strip also ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I picked up the new Broons book and Oor Wullie & The Broons Family History today Shall give it a wee read later.
Very surprised to see they've broke with tradition and published a new Oor Wullie book this year too. A special thing for the 80th anniversary?

Re: 2015 Annuals
Picked up the Broons/Oor Wullie colour book today. For anyone interested: It's a mix of Dudley D Watkins and Ken H Harrison, with some Robert Nixon Wullie strips, along with some mini-strips featuring the Bairn and Harry. It's cinema-themed this year. There's a bit where they show some of the strips...

Re: "Inappropiate" stuff in UK kids humour comics
I would mention the infamous Desperate Dan strips involving the 2 Chinese slaves from his 1977 annual, but as the original strip was from the 50s/60s, it's most likely of it's time! The poem at the top of one strip, where he gets covered in soot and impersonates a Minstrel... "Jumping crackers and J...

Re: Longest running comic character.
The strips were altered slightly though to remove the heavier Scots slang and to remove references to the pre-decimal currency though. Plus a few strips had artwork altered to reflect the current trends of the time (best example of this is a story where Paw and Granpaw see 2 Teddy Boys flipping a co...

Re: 2013 Annuals (Covers added 5th May)
Spotted the Broons and Oor Wullie 70s annual in the Ayr Waterstones today. Seeing as Tom Lavery and the scriptwriter of the time have both passed on, Morris Heggie and a ghost artist attempt to explain Dave McKay's mysterious disappearance.....I won't spoil anything! (Interestingly, the annuals feat...
